Want to get the perspective of younger attorneys. We’re a 4-attorney firm (2 partners, one associate, one OC) looking to add a 5th attorney. I left a mid-sized litigation firm on the East Coast where I was a partner to open my own firm. Decision was driven by quality of life. We are a civil lit firm. We don’t have billing requirements per se. We have expectations, but we’re reasonable - big on flexibility & quality of life. What are young associates looking for when evaluating job opportunities?

Have worked in both banking and consulting, but still looking for a combination of things:
1. Something that’s less quantitative / producing and checking numbers constantly
2. Managerial and people-focused - not just an IC role
3. Ideally remote with some kind of international flavor

I am on an engagement that has 2 managers. I enjoy working with 1 manager. He is very understanding and provides feedback/guidance. However, the other belittles me. She is constantly asking “why” and even when I am not sure of the response she keeps pressuring. She provides no actual information for me to learn from. Recently moved over from the US, and had my salary adjusted down pretty significantly due to the market (internal transfer). Just found out that I am being promoted, and my salary at the new level is still less than what I earned 2 years ago in the US. Having a hard time being excited about the title change.

With rental price increases, I am left paying £1600 pcm for a one bed. I am on £65k base with 2.5 yoe and feel that the rent is eating into my savings goals. Any body been taking a hit with rent increases?
