Here's a real money post. Just got a 2K raise and pretended I was grateful. Fuckin' advertising.

Here's a real post: Didn't get laid off.

oh man. I always envision myself saying "you keep it. you clearly need it more" in those types of situations, but I know I never would.

you can be upset about a minuscule raise and still happy to be employed. they're not mutually exclusive. @Leo2

This happened to me a while back. I thought about it like this: my life is identical except once a month I can get a large pizza from Papa John's that I wouldn't have been able to afford without my 2k raise. Better ingredients, better pizza, Papa Johns.

This "shut up and be grateful for what you got" position is a crock. Just because something didn't happen to you, everyone should be complacent with a tiny scrap that's specifically designed to keep employees complacent? That means, when your day FINALLY comes, and your recognition is similarly underwhelming, you should also "just take it" without wondering if that number is what you deserve or how long it will be until you receive one again. Don't be mad sideways, at the people receiving inadequate recognition. Instead consider being mad upwards, at the system that didn't give you your raise, laid off your friend, or has been making other curious choices. Google "crab mentality," then choose to evolve.

2k/12months=166 - 38% taxes=103monthly or $50 biweekly. Yayyyyyyy

Don't blame your manager. Blame Arthur Sadoun and Maurice Levy. They're the ones mandating no raises.

Say thank you. Some people got nothing. If you think you can get more elsewhere, do it.

I feel your pain. I got the same. I don't want to know what the look on my face was when my VP told me. Just smiled and said great! But I really wanted to throw both my middle fingers up and walk out 🖕🏼🖕🏼

You got a raise at all? How long have you worked there?

like

It's so small it's hard to call a raise but think about it this way - if you put that $100 a month into a vacation fund, before you know it you'll be on a beach somewhere feeling pretty lucky to have gotten a little bonus. #perspective

like
Arrow Icon

To put it into perspective, this is a 1-3% which is nice of course but kind of pathetic and just checks off "got a raise, probs happy, no need to do anything good for that employee for a while". Unless this it's a deliberate strategy building up to a bigger % raise in the next round of reviews, which is sometimes employed by good managers who value you, I say GTFO and get a new job new salary thing that someone else described at length in another post.

I say look for a new job. Leo is so ridiculous when it comes to raises and promotions. Don't waste ur time if u can get more money elsewhere- which is 99% true

Sorry for the lack of empathy, but some of us got a $0k raise.

like

Seems @LB OP, from the other LB posts, you should be grateful that you didn't get laid off and that you got a raise at all. Company context matters. $2k might be a token gesture from someone saying we can't so much but it's a small gesture. And if that's not working for you, you need to explore options.

Also- you got a raise a mere two weeks after how many people got laid off?

like
Arrow Icon

Would you rather work hard and: A) lose your job B) get your paycheck C) get your paycheck and also $2,000 D) quit and find a better job You only have to choose from the last two, so STFU and decide.

Leo Burtnett lays off people on the reg. It's a known fact and actually happens pretty cyclically, especially Chicago. You guys shouldn't be sarcastic about it but rather look for other jobs? I dunno

I'm going to be honest here: i once got a $1K raise (from $37k to $38k), it was "3%!!" back in 2010

I am due for promotion next year from S. Con to Manager. I was assured that I would get it this yr but didn't happen and now the partner tells me that it's definitely going to happen next year. I have got an offer with 50% hike from a well to do start up but for the same profile. Should I make the move or should I wait another year? In a dilemma, kindly advice. I was also awarded the president award this time - but I guess that was more like a consolation for not getting the promotion.

He called me emotional during a meeting, made a joke about how I was “fired” in front of the client, and in general berated me everyday. I fear the reprecrussions though. What do you think? Quick thoughts on Titan - I rolled my 401k into a Titan IRA about 6 months ago and could not be happier. Up about 40% with practically no fees. It’s not for everyone - it’s great if you want someone to pick stocks for you but want to feel like you’re a part of the action. I’m going through that right now and wondering if it will pass with time as I get more experience in the role. Or, if it doesn’t, what do you do about it? Would it look horrible to eventually take a job somewhere else back at the Senior CW level? I’ve always loved being the maker - focusing on writing and concepting. How to save money from monthly bills : 1) pay attention to auto and home insurance bills . The longer you stay with the provider, most likely your bill would go up . Since my wife and I are working from home for last 10 months , I was able to negotiate auto insurance bill and it’s now 30% less . 2 ) your wireless bill . Anytime you make changes , most likely your phone company will mess up your bill . Anytime they mess up, you can file complaint with FCC. My wireless company just issued me $300
