Hey all. coming into the new year, I’m making a career pivot as a Business Development Rep with Beck Tech. I’ve been in sales for about 7 years, with my most recent role being a Territory Manager for a small business. If anyone has been in this role before, any advice would be appreciated going into a new industry 🙏🏽

Plenty advice here

Activity is key, but the correct kind, remember you're after New Business to start not long term relationships until later

Think outside the box, always ask why they should act and why now? You are in a rat race so stand out

Only deal with the MAN, (They have thr Money, Authority, Need) and sell to their NOW (Buying because they need it, there's and opportunity with it or they Want in)

Acid test close constantly, If I can, will you, this removes any potential objections early and removes potential wasted time on unnecessary meetings.

All link to the first bit of advice, Productive Activity and lots of it

Good Luck

I appreciate the insight, this is helpful info!

Why are you making this move? Most BDRs work for years to become a Territory Manager.

I was in the water/filtration industry, only about 30 employees with deals being in the $6-8K range Residential and $16-20K commercial with a shorter sales cycle. With Software sales in the deals are much larger with a longer sales cycle. It seems like a backwards move, but in my previous role, there was no growth opportunity. With my current role, the company is in the scaling stage with only 3% market capture currently. Definitely more opportunity for growth in Preconstruction.

Don’t you feel like you’re over qualified for a BDR position? BDR are usually entry level positions.

Does anyone have advice on pivoting away from hospital administration and into other opportunities within healthcare (i.e. consulting/strategy/program management etc.)? I've been a service line administrator for 3 years and working at a large hospital system for 6 (post MHA) but I'm not getting anywhere when I apply for roles outside of hospital operations. I get called back for other hospital ops roles but I can't even get a phone interview when I branch out...

What’s a reasonable salary range for someone in ATL with 7 YOE and an MBA? Currently at $155k base plus 15% bonus and looking for exit opps but the market is capping Sr. managers off at $170k so not worth it for me to move unless it’s a Director level role but then it’s also hard to break into the Director level from Manager. Graduated from Babson College (MA, US) in 2014. Became passionate about the tech industry during my SY. Came back home (I don’t live in the US) and worked for a family member for four years (non-tech). Left in 2018, started working on my first startup (TravelTech). Shelved in March 2020 due to Covid. Huge pivot - started working on my second startup (DeliveryTech). Failed, wrong market.

What’s my next move? I’m thinking about grad school + working in the US post graduation. Cheers!

Our sales team sells membership for $30k-$75k and make about $400 on each sale now matter how much. Each month management takes $500 for a “minimum performance charge.” All and all, my colleague has made the company over $400k this year and has only made 0.2% of that ($8k).
