Hey all, I am a full-time1L at a bottom tier law school and I am looking to transfer. I work a part time job and I am the treasury of our international and business law society. Has anyone been in a similar situation and is willing to offer their advice/ experience?

I was in a similar situation. GPA and class rank is going to be critical in transferring. After 1L, I was ranked No. 2 and was able to transfer in to a T15 school. So it is definitely possible.

How was your experience once you transferred? Was there anything substantially different? After all, the law is the law.

Thanks for the response

To be honest, I found my old law school to be more difficult than the new one. Not sure if it was just bc 1L curriculum is more difficult than the later years or if I just had tougher professors at the lower ranked school. No issues with the transition at all. Graduated top of my class. Employed at graduation at a good mid-to-large firm (but not big law — not interested in that lifestyle tbh!) and am now GC of a tech company.

I graduated with a degree in Business in 2018. I’m planning to pursue a Masters in Engineering (likely will pair with MBA) and have been taking the required pre-reqs over the last year from community college.

Is there a big difference between MEng and MS degrees? Or about the same?

I started off looking in going into Mechanical Eng but now looking more into Civil & Environmental.

Is anyone here willing to provide insight about job prospects between the two fields?

Or any other advice?

Anyone else who feels that they want to step into the more analytical/executive/operational/financial side of business?

I feel that as a corporate lawyer, you’re mostly doing the necessary details to carry out someone else’s decisions (= EG the boring part of business). The most "strategic" advice you give is perhaps advising on a choice between transaction models.

Would only a law degree and big law transactional experience be sufficient to go into more traditional business roles?
