Need to vent. The team I’m on has spent months and months on finetuning a new program. We are SO PROUD of it. My boss tells us what a great job we did, etc. He presents the final product to upper management and….in our company newsletter this week, uppers thank OUR BOSS on allllll the great work he did, his stellar idea, etc. No mention of anyone else on the team. Now I’m hearing all these great things about my boss and being asked if I got to work on his program. HIS program. (ctd in comments)
Hi, I received the below offer for L65 Principal Program Manager (non tech) at Microsoft in Atlanta. I have 12 YOE in strategy consulting. Can somebody with experience with MS please advise if this is good or lowball? The recruiter mentioned that this is max for Atlanta and anything else will require an “exception” process. I don’t think I want to risk losing the offer. Thanks!!

Absolutely let them know.
Frame it in such a way that you need their help to make the offer financially viable: “I really enjoyed the interview process with you! However, another offer has come in at 95k, which makes this a difficult decision for me. Is there any way you can match this offer?”
Depending on your relationship with the recruiter, you can mention how that $5k would make a difference to you (student loans, etc).
Ah, that’s interesting. I see what you are saying - Company A is already being quite flexible with you.
It can’t hurt to ask, but I would make sure the language is as gracious and grateful as possible. You can even say, “It feels strange to request this given that you’ve been generous with my start date, but I wanted to let you know what’s giving me pause.”

Definitely try to negotiate it. Let company A know you want to join but you have a higher offer and you also need to do what makes sense financially. Only tell them its a 5k difference if they ask. Also, is the 5k the only reason you would consider company B? Take into account benefits, wlb, the actual job, etc. Worth a shot to negotiate for sure, might not be worth turning down the job for a 5k difference.
You should definitely negotiate but which position and company do you prefer? That's more important than who pays $5k more. How did you feel about the team, the WL balance, the manager, and the specific data work you would be doing?
Your decision should not be solely based on the 5K difference between the offers. Understand the culture at both firms better and choose a place which will be good for your career growth.
Like was Company A’s immediate first office 90k? That would make me pause and think. Also there’s always room to negotiate, and if you’re not exactly hurting for work give let them know Company B’s offer and see if they can meet it. Also waiting 3 months to hire you? I’d make sure it’s guaranteed in the signing if you do go with company A
