Hey All! I have a TA heavy background with little generalist experience and want to take my career into HRG/BP. I’ve interviewed for a few generalist roles, but am getting rejected right and left. I know the easiest way in is transferring within an existing co a I work for. I’ve feel I’ve mastered TA and no longer find it challenging or exciting. Any recommendations?

One path you can take is to look for internal talent partner roles. They typically exist in larger orgs with true CoE models. These roles take on a more strategic nature by partnering with business leaders on strategic workforce planning, org design, succession planning, and recruiting needs. Essentially a part of what an HRBP would do, without the ER component. In fact, they partner very closely with HRBPs in supporting respective business leaders. It will make use of your TA-heavy background, and position you well to take on a ‘real’ HRBP role thereafter

Do you have any suggestions of company’s who follow this model? I’m in a situation right now where I have carved my own path and love what I’m doing but think I need to move into a new org to further continue my development. I am lost and really nervous to make the wrong move, I’m the lead TA and “HRBP” for my group but we don’t even have HRBP’s in our region and now they are discussing a reorg that will majorly affect me directly that I’m not keen of.

What feedback are you getting from the turndown’s?

In general, it’s good to highlight how the skills in your current role fit the HRBP role. Your time spent coaching hiring managers is definitely transferable. I would have some examples of times you’ve done that ready for behavioral interview questions.

Thanks. I’m not getting responses when I ask for feedback. I’m getting most rejections at application stage.

Have you tried to talk to your existing company about your desire to move into HR? If they’re any good they should want to talk to you

That’s terrible. Then I would go pursue a job as a senior ta/ lead again in a similar industry that you just left and during the interview process tell then of your career aspirations to transition into HR and see if there is a possible career path to that at their org. I imagine (from a recruiter perspective) it would be hard to make that leap without any prior job exp/certs in HR. Get your foot in the door at another company and ask for stretch assignments from your HRBP

I was just offered a position with a non-profit organization. It’ll be a great transition from my current fellowship, and I’m super excited about the offer. Now here’s the catch, I haven’t accepted yet, but I am also applying for clerkship with a federal judge. If offered the judicial clerkship, I’d want to happily and eagerly accept. What is the professional way to accept the current offer and possibly leave if offered the clerkship? If it helps, this will be my second post-graduate position.

However, I just started a new job I do like (about 5 months in) after having a job for almost a year before leaving. Management consulting is the dream but would y’all move so soon?

Coaching leader on factors influencing KPIs.

I had a chat with my business partner, and he’s said the team is complaining about the KPIs that are too far of a stretch.

I then suggested him to unpack that a bit more. When one is not hitting their KPIs, there could be many factors.

My initial view is that it could be true but we also have to look at CAPABILITY, TECHNOLOGY, WAYS OF WORKING etc before assuming our KPI is not set up right.

What is your approach in this scenario?
