It's pretty high in TX. Plano is a growing area with good schools so would be good option if you have kids.
Great area - Plano is no longer developing, more like already developed. Even further north - Frisco and Prosper are the next 2 hot suburban areas. Plano is a 20-30 minute drive from downtown with no traffic. But great place to raise a family. Salary range is good. As a senior in public in Dallas I make $74 ish so that is about 20% above my salary.
Definitely possible. Depending which side of Plano, rent/house could be a bit more pricey. West side of Plano is newer, but tons of range of price and affordability throughout. Its medium to low COL
Dallas is a very hot market. I would say that salary is average for a senior accountant in the area.

“What Company is it?” Quietly to myself: damn. I want that.
Sounds like a great salary for the area. Plano is 30-45 min north of Dallas so cost of living is not bad. Plano is developed so some of the houses are dated but there are great parks and schools around. If you’re looking for more affordable and newer housing there’s lots of surrounding cities you could look into and still have a commute of under 30 minutes
I lived in Carrollton for a couple years and really liked how central that area is. If you go more north (frisco, Allen, McKinney) those areas are nice but further from Dallas so it just depends on what you want right now
Real estate market in Plano is hot and expensive.
Any areas that you recommend I look into with a fairly reasonable commute?
It depends on how far/long you want to drive. You should drive around and check out the areas and look at rental/home costs. You could live in a lot of places and work in Plano. Do you want to be “in the city” then live in Dallas. If you want to live in the country you could move north, northeast and east of Plano. A lot of folks that live in the DFW area drove 30 minutes or more one way to get to work.
That’s in the higher range for Senior Accountants in industry for the area.

I grew up in Plano! Yes, like a lot of people have mentioned, Plano is now developed. Real estate IS NOT expensive relative to just about anywhere in the country, but it has been going up. A guy on my audit team just bought a starter house for like $275K in Plano. I liked growing up there. 20-30min drive downtown but there’s starting to be a lot of really cool areas to go out in Plano and Frisco
