Are they peers? If so, I’d also just be friendly and connect personally as much as they’re willing to. Helps to have friends around!

Don’t go in with a super strong agenda! Make it more like getting to know them and casually throw some of these questions in. Then it’ll be easier to ping them in the future too even for small/“stupid” questions.

What is something that you know now that you wish you had known when you started in your role?

This is great, thank you!

I just got laid off from a strategy consulting boutique in the UK that primarily works with PE funds doing CDD/VDD. It goes without saying that the market is terrible. Trying to decide between two portfolio ops roles, both in the Bay Area: Small-ish VC firm, ~135k base + 35k bonus Medium PE firm, ~115k base + 115k bonus Which would you choose? I’m leaning towards the PE firm bc it’s more hands-on, faster learning curve, and higher TC, but the VC role seems to have a better WLB and generally sounds cooler (getting exposed to VC vs continuing in the corporate world). What do you think?
