What does a good nurse leader look like?
Definitely not less stressful!
They definitely carry their jobs back home as I have observed. This was also what I gathered when I interviewed for the position of public health nurse for my county.
Disease control nurse working at local health department is very stressful. Working on-call one week a month. First in community to deal with new diseases & outbreaks Ebola, Zika, Covid, Neisseria meningitis outbreaks at the local college, nationwide hepatitis A outbreaks. Mandatory overtime for outbreak management & pop up clinics. Dealing with community leaders, school administrators, nursing homes, hospital icp’s, businesses, and constant community calls. Case managing TB cases. The list of responsibilities is endless
Wow! Yea that something I do not want to deal with.
Though I’m not a public health nurse, I interviewed for one five months ago. It seems very fulfilling, but the schedule just didn’t work for me. I have a little one and it seems there’s a lot of pop up clinic you need to supervise on weekends (Covid) and being on call on weekdays and weekends, as well.
Thanks for your input! I’m trying to stay away from working call and weekends.
How come? What’s your experience? Can you please elaborate? Im currently in a management position and I’m getting burnt.
