It feels like when I prioritize one thing over the others and make it clear to others why I’m doing so, things just slip through the cracks and I end up looking less capable. I’ve been asking leadership for more help for a few weeks now but nothing seems to be moving fast enough and deadlines are a-coming. Anyone been in a similar situation? Any advice?
What I’ve found is that constant alignment is most important and critical. Be proactive about communicating up and also if there are decisions that are difficult to make based off uncertain priorities throw that upwards as well or at least communicate the uncertainty and provide a recommendation. It sounds like you’re doing this. If you get a response to that you’re throwing the decision making to others as well and making it so that not all the pressure is on you. If you don’t get a response that’s where you might need to escalate and say that you need to make sure you’re heading in the right direction and just require that 10 min check.
Regarding deadlines I’d suggest the same and walk clearly through the timeline. At a certain point there is only so much that can be done if you’re dealing with poor leadership.
One last suggestion is to have others get the attention of those you need to get a response from. Maybe leadership responds more frequently to certain individuals and get their help to get the attention of leadership.
