Verizon. This company only cares about numbers and does not promote based on how good you are. Office politics plays a bigger role. Verizon schedules your schedule based on their needs and not on yours. You are just a number at this company. I was told to sell a credit card to a poor man who couldn't afford to pay his next rent payment so that he can buy accessories. Verizon talks about "integrity" But that's just BS. I have never worked for a company it morally so corrupt.
Get out of there. Not everywhere is like this, and you deserve to work somewhere that doesn't mess with your mental health. Been there, it isn't worth it in the long or the short term.
Toxic means something different to most people. That being said I just left my job of 18yrs that I definitely was passionate about but I didn't realize the pressure and stress it put on me and my family. My wife told me I was a completely different person day 1 of being out. If you feel it's toxic, its time to move on. Making yourself happy is the only path to becoming your best self. Good luck.
I am currently seeking out my best options. I have made some great connections over my sales career just still unsure of witch path I want or sector to pursue.
When your sales leaders are narcissists who are great at sales but horrible with people…. Yes this is what you end up with. I did that for 2 years myself and will never do it again. There’s better bosses out there and the thing with those types of leaders is since they are hard to work for, they’ll almost always hire you back if you wanted to leave
In short tho- no. Very few
If there is already growing mental health issues while staying there, then better get out. Your mental health is worth more than your toxic job. I personally don't believe that for a leader to become effective must embarrass and be ruthless to his/her team members. They need to respect other people regardless of rank. Respect begets respect.
Unfortunately I’m in a similar situation. Drilled on a daily basis every morning. I’ve been trying to get out. That would be my recommendation. That being said if anyone is looking for an AE with 5 years of sales let me know.
May be worth trying to find a similar position (or one that aligns with or can help you work towards your aspirations) in a company that has values that are closer to your own and can help expand your self/professional worth.
I've seen mostly managers as the reason for environments like that, not the company.
Agreed! I've dealt with bad managers in the past and trust me...it's not worth it. This is pretty bad behavior tbh and you shouldn't have to put up with it
You won't grow as an individual if you stay there. I've been there. You can still find greater opportunities outside of that toxic organization.
Grilling you about deals is not toxic. What exactly do you mean by inconsistency and lack of accountability? Examples?
From 10 different people, yes. That is a waste of time, more than anything else. But you gotta be prepared to answer hard questions once in a while.
Definitely start looking for something better . Your mental health will be affected and it’s just not worth it . The best sales leaders don’t have to be narcissists or pushy . That doesn’t make people sell more it just produces stress which actually makes you unproductive
Very true. When I switched up my management style to make my team feel less pressured, they performed way better.
Most places I've worked in Technology operate this way. They give you grace for the first 6 months and its sporadic, inconsistent and stupid.
My advice, if you're not exceeding quota, definitely start looking. Its a job seeker's market out there but make sure you ask the tough questions & get time with current reps too.
If you do continue to work there. Start documenting everything now. So when or if you need to protect yourself, you have real data points, not just emotions. Save everything, emails, notes, recordings that may help you.
In this situation when interviewing and they ask you why do you want to leave. How would you approach that? Without saying pricing, toxic, or features compared to competitors as you mentioned.
I wouldn’t use those words. There are more positive ways to frame my learning experience. With that said, I was open about it here because I wanted to hear other peoples view on this. I know my worth and know this place doesn’t resonate with my values anymore.
