Provide two weeks notice, and make a sincere effort to wrap things up neatly, and train others to perform your work. Your professional reputation matters. If employer tells you to just leave, then of course you may.
It's a courtesy to your co workers to do a proper hand-off. You'll be shocked at how un-toxic it gets once you give notice. You will not care so will be immune to bad behaviors!
It’s the proper thing to do. You never know where people end up
It's not a requirement, unless it's specifically agreed to in an employment contract. It's typically just a courtesy. In the finance industry, resigning employees are often relieved immediately due to the sensitive nature of the work. If you didn't explicitly agree to it and you don't care about burning bridges, then you don't have to provide any notice.
I think it depends, I have given roles more time, only 2 weeks, and only 2 weeks but less than internal 4 wk requirement. A few factors to a consider:
1. Are you an at will employee? Eg, no regulatory or contractual obligations.
2. How detrimental to your mental health is it to stay for the duration? And do you have your employee benefits figured out?
3. In the same area of the industry? And is it a small area of industry? How could this effect you within your network or for future roles? Eg, do you primarily do regulatory validations or are you working as an auditor in a consulting capacity?
It’s a courtesy and not a required but it could come back around to bite you if it’s a small network in your area.
Give two weeks, but they will probably tell you just to go now.
I have two weeks notice when I switched industries a few years back and my boss walked me out immediately and paid me the two weeks. Same might happen to you!
While not a requirement, I usually give a two week notice. It allows you to transition tasks/projects/responsibilities to your manager or coworkers.
