To put it bluntly, your source is either mistaken, out of context, or full of it. I was using my personal phone non-stop for work during the Texas blackouts: calling, texting, and hotspotting. It was a lifeline.
Sounds like you are drunk.
You send the client a calendar invite that has a MS teams dial in.
What u mean, I’m on my phone all day

Not allowed to use a cell phone? What y’all been doing over there, BDO?
Huh?
Am i crazy or if the client needs a quick chat, then setting an immediate call (skype at the time with kpmg) wasn’t out of the ordinary...
I do not know what you are talking about. I have an office line and since I do not go into the office, we installed CISCO Jabber on all computers so when your office phone line rings it pops up like a teams call. I also thought it was normal practice to set up a teams call for a quick client call? I prefer this in case I need to share screens. It also allows flexibility to be by a computer or also giving the option of a phone dial in number. Bad hot take.
Why cant they use cellphones?
They need to log into their phone with Jabber.
Context and source: a buddy who is a client of BDO needed to have a quick chat so they call one of the audit team using the number in the auditor sugnature, but it’s the office number. They then email the auditor asking for a quick call when the auditor frees up. Auditor says they can’t call and will need to use teams. Then on the team call the auditors confirmed they don’t have phones and communication has to be through teams or similar tool. Both a senior and manager were on the call.
Maybe a regional or office specific thing, but my buddy was told this has been the way for them.
You're source is like wildly mistaken. We all have phone numbers, we just don't have physical desk phones anymore. (Which 90% of people aren't in the office anyways so, makes sense). We have jabber to make outgoing and recieve incoming calls. Or like... Just use your cellphone man. There is no requirement to use teams
Not at BDO but I also have no physical landline phone. Our office numbers all ring teams, it works just like any other phone. Also not giving out my cell to clients for my own peace and sanity.
That’s interesting because my firm uses MS teams and routed our office phone numbers so that if the client calls us, we can answer them via teams.
At the end of the day, firms have these policies for CYA reasons. It wouldn’t be good if the firm got sued and ad hoc discussions on the audits in question were retained and submitted as evidence in court.
