There is a guy and a group of female engineers who brought their company to court in Silicon Valley because of this…
If you make 11 lakhs per year or have assets of more than 65 lakhs you are in top 10% as per 2021 Indian express data. Power and respect is always tied to money in all societies in current world.
So a family that has enough to spend 100k$ plus for kids college degree is oppressed? There are crores of Indians and others who will happily love to trade places with such family who make such money.
Agreed, definitely a brahman
No, but an indian colleague did give me a look of shock when they realized I ate beef (I was born and raised in the US as part of a non-veg family.)

I find the caste system deeply troubling / incompatible with my world view. I’m an outsider: Catholic Latino.
The idea that the circumstances of your birth defines you in anyway is exactly the opposite of my faith
What are the different caste levels again?
Brahmin is the top dog, as defined by the literatures authored by Brahmins 😊
Where do you guys meet such people? I have never run into anyone like this yet. I am from general category but don't believe in castes, also in interfaith marriage and hate this entire concept.
By the way this feeling exists in other religions too, I have seen my wife's christian network often talking if one is catholic or baptist and so on.
Shia sunni quarrel is known to all
“General Category” generally does not believe in caste because it does not affect them or see an impact. I don’t think that means an absence of caste bias.
As to comparing it to other religions, I think it is not a fair comparison. For one, there is no hierarchy in them, two, their separations are based on belief, not by birth as in this case, three, you could switch from being catholic to baptist (I think they can), but you can’t change your caste, even if you don’t like it.
OP I would strongly suggest say whatever your caste is with a smile and ask so what?
