Hey everybody, new here. But after reading through some of the post , I see that I am not the only one in the same boat. I’m in my 2 year as a teacher, currently a middle school math teacher. It was never my intention to begin with and I don’t mind it. I just know that’s not where my heart is. Anybody have similar experiences moving from teaching into another career such as something in finance. How would I even begin to break into the field with a degree in something not particularly related.

Switch to Strategy?
L7 Consulting, Chicago, $152k, ~4 YoE total. MD in Strategy has offered to sponsor me to move over as Manager. I’ve been told by SMD in Consulting (who recruited me) that I should be expecting L6 SM in the next year, year and a half, and likely won’t get promoted as fast in Strategy. Would welcome advice on how to think about transfer / negotiating compensation if I stay in Consulting. TIA!

My manager and I feel I'm highly underpaid but cannot do anything about it due to the merger.
Layoff is not a concern for me, I want to understand the impact of the merger on my financial career.

Those who find happiness intrinsically, how do you do it? I’ve always sought things and people to be happy. I’ve been less happy after college and the pandemic doesn’t help. For the people who earned the SHRM-CP, did you feel it was worth it? I have an indirect HR position, been applying for more HR focused positions and wondering if this would help. I got the CAPM (certified associate of project management) in December, but that hasn’t really changed things. Would love some opinions before working on another certification!

2 - Non- technical role in a tech firm interested in fintec, AI and supply chain.

At what point does “ego” stop mattering? Over the past 5 years I’ve worked my way to being an Account Manager, but ultimately my career goal is to work for the government. There’s an opportunity to be an admin assistant working for the government, and would be a nice way for me to get in and move up. But the title change from Account Manager to Assistant is a big deterrent. Logically I know that it doesn’t matter, but emotionally it’s hard to feel like I am taking a major career step back?

I've been on the hunt for my new adventure (not in that industry). I am finding it hard! Majority of the time I don't hear back. When I do get interviews, I get "we decided not to fill this role," or I get to the final round and am not selected. I am looking for advice on my resume and cover letter. I want to get more hits on my applications.

How do you know it’s time to leave a job/pivot? (vs sticking it out). We’ve grown really quickly as a company so it’s definitely an adjustment.

- Growing company and stable-ish industry
- Hopeful future

Cons
- More red tape, slower innovation
- More meetings/reporting than work
- Doesn’t feel like creativity is a value
- A few prominent people left recently
- Lots of burnout
