what age you reached 100k ,200k, 300k base
Feeling super low. I got an offer for a PM role with Capital One that I was so excited about. After sending a negotiation letter however, the team then WITHDRAWS my offer saying I’m no longer a good fit . I was respectful and only asked for things that my existing org offered, and made it clear I was happy to adjust if not feasible. I’m beyond disappointed and borderline depressed. It’s been a long job search and this feels awful

Sure, just go “make your way” into PE from wealth management lol. Gonna need to get 2 years in investment banking before you head that way.
Base salaries for smaller funds at the associate level are low (100-120k base) but bonuses are also 50-100% of base. That is entry level. Scales quickly from there, and we haven’t gotten to carry.
I wish... He has a ton of businesses and none of them are in finance lol.. But I don't want to ask for a potential referral until I'm ready to handle the job! He is a more distant uncle as far as relationship goes too, so I want to play my cards right, after all its his word I'm asking for, I feel like I need to be good enough to not suck after he does me a favor lol
My daughter just got PE Associate job at top tier firm, but she had 2 years IB Analyst and was running deal teams in Year 2. So I think that is the way to go. She had her pick of PE firms. She is 24. PE won’t be her long-term play, but good for next step in her career path.
OP I had better not say as it’s a small world and if I say her college, IB firm, and new PE firm it will be a dead giveaway.

You just said salaries in PE isn’t impressive but yet want to get in?
might be, that's why I asked in here I figured people would probably be more knowledgeable. From what I'm aware, it goes analyst, associate, VP, principal, partner, then managing partner. Are you familiar with how many guys get stuck at associate? Is it as easy as people make it sound to advance? It sounds like if you're good, it's a guarantee to advance, but is that true
What do you want to do long term and what will best align you to that goal? I wouldn’t base your decision solely on income as that’ll come with time and experience.
My family member is starting PE job as Associate and base salary is $150k + bonuses and so on…. Should make double that this year easily. She is 24. Top tier firm. Has 2 years IB experience- you need that to get in. She was heavily pursued by recruiters for this job. Not sure if your background will translate?
Where are you seeing average salaries in PE? Your 80k number is very far off.
Btw the FAs who make $1M+ work really hard for decades to get there (and most FAs never do). That’s not something you can just coast to

The most reliable source on PE comp is a report released by Heidrick & Struggles. Take a look at that and see if it helps answer your question.
OP - FA and PE are very different careers. PE associate salaries are 250-350+ total comp. However you’d need 2 years of IB (Could not skip that). If you are lucky you could try for an analyst role at a PE fund (120-200 TC) which would be for 2 years before moving to associate. However more importantly, you have to ask WHY you would prefer PE over FA - it’s very different work and I’d suggest that traits to be successful in either field are different…
Wut consulting doesn’t require relevant experience
Also what SA2 said. Who cares if you’re within 5-10k rn when you’re trying to make 150k more
OP I think your best route is to compete for an M7 or top 15 MBA and recruit for BB/EB IB. Your Michigan background will make you competitive if you can score a 720+ on GMAT. Try to secure an IB internship after your first year to see what it’s all about.
Another option is to look at top MSF programs (MIT, Vanderbilt, USC are a few). This will place you in at the analyst level but is only 1 year of school
Bottom line is that literally no one gets into PE from just a wealth management background
