What do you think teaching will be like after COVID? Do you think we'll change anything permanently?
It seems like each county/school district is responding to covid differently and the amount of pressure to return to normal varies. What's going on in your county?
When is it either allowed or seen as OK to start using FTO? I recently started here and while I’m not looking to slack off and take time off, I just want to know how it works. (Plus, I don’t want to not use something that I can or should use.) Elementary stuff, I know. But I’ve freelanced my whole career until now. Thanks
Has anyone ever taken a leave of absence/sabbatical due to burnout/exhaustion/depression? I'm feeling at my wits end with everything right now and have an appointment with my dr tomorrow. I feel like some time off away from everything would do me some good - I also have some other medical problems - but I'm afraid of what it might do to my career, what my co-workers/family will think, etc.
There's a lot of pressure from parents for us to return to in person instructionin my district despite rising COVID numbers. Is anyone else experiencing this?
Some of my friends who are parents said they're not worried about covid because it's very low risk for children. They know I'm a teacher and that I'm in a high-risk category. Makes me feel like they don't care about me.
Those of you who work at smaller companies (under 50 employees), would you mind sharing what kind of benefits you receive? How much pto? What’s the contribution to health, dental etc? Do you get any less common benefits? Thank you
Tips for motivation to wake up early for a light workout during the week? I find it tough to get a consistent sleep schedule as my partner often goes to bed later than me. And often times I work late too. Used to get up at 6:30 to be at work super early pre-covid and when I lived alone. That all changed when lockdown hit/moved in with my partner and I haven't recovered since.
In a perfect world, I would have work-life balance and be able to disconnect on a somewhat normal basis. In this world, I can't Are there other ways you fully unplug from work without actually taking time off?
Are we allowed to travel from out of province to Vancouver for the holiday break? How rigid are the lockdown restrictions in B.C. right now?
Best family vacation destination you've been to in the past year or two? Something covid-friendly but that will appeal to my wife and kids [son, 22 and daughter, 18] thanks!
Do any of your district NOT have a mask mandate?
What is the company PTO rollover policy?
Is it reasonable to ask for three weeks before joining a new company? I was thinking a two week notice and a week vacation to take a breath. What do you think ?
Any business development advice for a minority female partner-level transactional lawyer? I have strong resume, incredible deal sheet, worked at the best firms. Existing firm clients say I'm the best counsel they ever had. But developing new clients (my own clients) is a hurdle. Seems like potential clients (mostly all white men) won't give me a chance at a deal. If they'd send me just one deal, I could win them over, but can't get my foot in the door. Advice?
After 15+ years of building our email list, we’ve just started using SMS marketing. We’re collecting emails and phone numbers and I’m wrapping my head around how to balance sends between the two formats. Text is rather immediate and personal but our email are blasts to larger segments. Should I still email my SMS subscribers at the same rate or pivot their promotions to text predominantly? Got any resources or case studies I can dive into?
Are you happy in life?

Have you experienced seniors and/or managers that compete with their staff? I think my senior generally just has a lot of dark personality traits. But I’m curious if this is common occurrence
I hate WFH. I can't focus, my dog is so damn cute, and I rather eat at home. My bosses haven't caught on yet but since March 2020, I've only been working 1 day every 2 weeks. Nothing is outstanding and no deadlines have been missed at least 😶
What's the funniest question you looked forward to answering from a customer? When I worked in freelance 8+ year ago, we'd get random callins to our shared offices asking, "here mate, how much is a website?" We'd return with, "how much is a car?".
Anyone experience that awkward transition from consulting to industry where the slower pace is…agonizing and confusing? Nothing is done and the slides are ugly.
Got a call yesterday from Modyo. Seemed like a really nice company. Anyone would like to give me their input about such company?
I can’t help but feel stuck in my career. I’m a licensed attorney in another country, but been working as a law clerk in a firm for about a year now. I was hoping to take the NY bar in February but the foreign law graduate restrictions won’t allow. Now, I have to wait till July! I can’t help but feel this way, and as much as I love my company, I’m beginning to dislike the role. Maybe it’s an ‘ego’ thing? Anyone ever been in this position? How did you get over it?
Lateraled in the last year and started with great reviews but I’m getting burnt out and have been making more client-facing mistakes lately. I’m scared I’m making a really bad impression and that I’m not gonna last another year at my firm. How do you calm your fears when you feel like you’re going to get fired/demoted?
I am having so much anxiety about wanting to get pregnant that it’s distracting me at work. Does anyone have any tips on what to do to be able to function better at work and enjoy my life?
Anyone have experience working for tech start ups? I have an offer on the table (20% bump and RSU’s) for one who specializes in cyber threat detection. I’ve been with large consulting firms my entire career, and so I’m a bit fearful of the unknown when it comes to start ups. They’ve been doing really well the past 4 years, but again, I know that they could go belly up in an instant or a larger firm could replicate their business.

Anybody work at McKool Smith that can offer helpful insight into their practice and culture? Looking to potentially laterally from Biglaw to boutique litigation. Seems like they do a ton of IP work.
As someone who’s just come to commercial consulting from working for the government, I’ve heard partners boasting that they “can sell anything,” but I don’t understand the process. The government used procurement processes but as far as I can tell, private companies don’t do that. Clearly they aren’t cold calling. Who is identifying leads? How are they identified? Specifically talking about net new clients.
Just found out my 89 year old grandma keeps going out to buy newspaper everyday though she’d promised she’d stay home. She has enough food so no reason to go out. Why are old people so stubborn! 😞
