Hey everyone.

With recession insight in upcoming months. Which industry do you think would be most impacted and how much impact do you reckon will it have on our jobs?

Will recession hit service based IT companies more or the product based IT companies? In Product based, which industry will be most impacted. Will it be travel based companies, or financial banks based companies, or E commerce/consumer based companies, or any other? Where do you see the maximum impact?

i work in health care data and we are expecting little to no impact. hiring team is excited about the opportunity to recruit from the new pool of layoffs 😆

i think it’d be between 150 and 250 base… depending on YOE and responsibilities when you join the team. that’s for bay area or similar locations. lots of healthcare jobs exist in cheaper cost of living areas and you’ll likely earn less there.

Do folks have trusted/valuable resources for researching luxury family travel with young kids? I don’t care the cost, I want to know what is most convenient and nice for my family. Do folks just stick to true five star hotel concierges for help? Do folks just book luxury tours like A&K? How do folks research?

I just got a job offer for an Entry Level Software Engineer at Boeing in Saint Louis. The salary is $82,000 with an $8,000 sign on bonus. I was hoping for an offer closer to 90k base and I don’t care too much for a sign on bonus. However, this is a lot more than what I’m making now, and would be my first SWE job. Should I counter? My dream would be to do full stack but thats not an option. Scared of getting pigeon holed. Any suggestions as to what to do / tips?

I'm hiring and I've just learned that my HR department is screening candidates by asking them about very specific functions and frameworks.

"Can you describe your experience migrating from X framework to Y framework?"

We don't use Y framework and have no plans to use Y framework in the foreseeable future. I also don't expect candidates to have all functions memorized. How on Earth did they find out about Y framework!? 🙄🫣

What's the best course of action when you find yourself at a job that's far more chaotic than you assessed while interviewing? Upon starting this job a couple of weeks ago, I discovered between the time I interviewed and my start date they had hired a new CEO, laid off all of their off-shore teams, changed my position to a new hiring manager, and added an on-call rotation to all engineering teams. None of this showed up in my research of the company or my interviews.

I read a description of what this role is supposed to be for and it sounds like they'll be leading Scrum ceremonies. So they run the planning meeting, the retrospective and daily stand ups. Up to now, I've been doing those and it's taken a total of like 2 hours a week of my time.

What on earth do agile coaches do with the other 95% of their time?
