What's the salary range for a director at the Gilead Sciences foundation? There is a position perfect for me, but I don't want to throw my hat in the ring if starting salary isn't $180-190k. Also, any thoughts on the stability of their philanthropic commitment? There's talk of a recession; I don't want to go private to be cute a few months later.

Both will work as long as you take a public focus and can explain. What is the GS series for what you do now vs what EIAO has openings for?
Public health goes further outside of USDA, 100%. Food safety might net you a higher private salary but you’ll always be in the food industry. Public health has other academic openings like governance/administration, econ, and urban planning. 11/12 is the GS scale, but what are the series codes for the positions you’re looking at?

Having a masters that matches the titles is better than not having one. I have participated on hiring panels for GS 11+ and the usual suspects for the job generally had a masters that matched the series classification.
If you want more options, do public health. Otherwise, pick the other track if you want to hone in on your food safety career.
I have focused my MPH on food safety with papers and projects. The MPH has given me more flexibility in career options and continuing education. You can always pick up certifications to make up in areas you feel you lack in one or the other.
