Hey everyone!

As the bowl grows larger, I wanted to take a moment to talk through some ground rules that I'm using as I moderate, and get your input as well.

For me, this is a space where you're allowed to feel as much as you need to. Share your frustrations and experiences and triumphs, and share in the community that supports you through those.

I want to protect this bowl from the common, often thoughtless internet vitriol. It is an anonymous platform, and people often feel emboldened to be rude or crass or dismissive.

If someone makes unsupportive, aggressive comments, I will either comment or message them, report, and potentially block.

Some of the issues we're dealing with are *very* linked to our mental state and I think we all need to be treating each other with care.

I also want to protect this bowl from people who want to use it to gain an audience to build their own services, products, or groups.

I think it's great to share our journeys and any tools we've used along the way. Contextualize it in real experience!

Don't say "my sister runs this therapy practice" or "my friend just wrote this book" or "join this bowl for <not mental illness/health/wellness>"

It's okay to comment "OP, I was struggling with the same thing and here is what I used"

It's okay to post therapists you *follow* (not know personally) and that have made an impact on you, especially if you say how they've made an impact.l

It's okay to invite people to a mental health specific bowl like one for bipolar or ADHD or schizophrenia or anything like that.

I think part of uplifting people is making sure you root everything in real experience. I don't like the idea of folks joining the bowl to offer surface solutions for their own bottom line of engagement. That's what I call an ad, and I don't love that direction for the bowl

I also want to caution against armchair diagnosis in comments.

Coping mechanisms are useful, resource links are great, but it would help everyone to just encourage professional help for the diagnosis part of things

The fantastic part about mental health issues and coping is that you don't need the diagnosis to start implementing some of the cooling mechanisms

Diagnosis is also a factor of privilege so I just want to overall encourage people, if they are able, to get the professional help, but otherwise for most of us not to act as experts and more as peers who may have dealt with or seen the same issue before.

I'm seriously contemplating taking a software development boot camp to make a career change. For those who hire new software developers, does it make you stand out if you get your certificate from a university instead of a coding academy (like coding dojo or something)? I noticed the universities are a bit more expensive but is it worth the price to have a university on your resume or does it not really matter?

The old rule of ‘get rid of it if you haven’t worn it in a year’ just doesn’t work when the last 2 years I swapped my sheath dresses for sweat pants.
