I usually keep half, and divest the other half into other investments or an ETF, unless there’s something in my horizon where I want to use the cash.
I will sell my RSUs
My RSUs are set up to sell all on vest. Taxes get taken, and cash is deposited in my brokerage account. I then buy VOO with the money. Two reasons: 1. Diversification: All my household’s income comes from Amazon, and holding more stock than I’m already obligated to (in the form of unvested RSUs) is excessive exposure to a single company. 2. Liquidity: AMZN is illiquid for 44 weeks per year; I’m not subject to a trading window for VOO.
I keep and let it roll. I was looking into auto sale to diversify... And then the last 18 months happened, and I didn't :) (#growth). Have about $800k vested so that's a nice little nest egg building
I sell most as we get refresh typically and w/o it your TC is pretty low after your year 2
About half of my annual total compensation comes from RSUs so I wind up selling some of the vested stock every year. Over the past few years, I have sold about half of my RSUs to use for either major purchases or to move the money into other investments for diversification. As much as possible I try to budget on my base salary, but I will sell stock for big purchases. Things like vacations, home repairs/renovations, new cars, etc.
Doesn’t the short term gain tax hurt you when you sell within a year?
I actually kept it up until the pandemic started - ours have grown astronomically so I’ve sold about half and invested elsewhere.
I keep it! FYI I work at Apple but haven’t changed the org name because they require us to give off mail id which I am not comfortable with!

once RSU vests, can we leave company without encashing. Will the stocks be in my name to sell in future?
