They just put u for backup, there is no hope till you receive offer letter.
Hope that is not the case.
This happened to me too.. when I tried to follow up one of them even sent a better luck next time email and the reason they stated was business constraints
Yup we are in the same boat.
I was in a similar situation last month, cleared 2 rounds for HCl, HR told me they will release offer letter by end of week, then they delayed it by 3 days saying today EOD u will get it, finally HR said we are sry, currently we are having a unit wide hiring freeze.
2days later, another HR from HCl called and said we are having urgent requirement, took another 2 interviews and gave offer letter.
Seems there is no coordination between hiring teams inside HCl.
1st HCL HR said they can go max 20LPA(with variable) - didn't get offer letter bcuz of hiring freeze.
2nd HCL HR offered 23LPA(Fixed) - got offer letter and joined.
Funny this is they hired me for immediate requirement it's been 20days, I'm still on bench.

#boycot HCl unprofessional company
Not just HCL buddy, across it is the same.. one HR says there is urgent requirement, other one says we are on hiring freeze. One says there is business constraint, other says let me check with higher level for approval. I feel this is a game they are playing to combat the countering offers associates are now-a-days following. No hiring process is transparent. May be this is just HRs doing their job, it also encourages associates to be dicey.
But I personally feel this is not how a hiring process needs to be. It should be transparent from both the sides.
