Two rules. 1. You try very, very hard to not discount your rate. Because once you do, it will be set a precedence—and it’s nearly impossible to get back it to it in the near future. 2. Avoid staffing firms like creative circle. They only look out for pimping you out and taking the majority of your money.

CC is offering you $80/hr? (remember that’s on W2)

I’ve raised prices. Never lower

Unpopular opinion - if you want to get hired you have to be willing to accept a lower rate. COVID rates are lower. Agency folks on staff have taken 20% cuts and freelance rates are lower. If you are going direct to the agency and are a known entity to them they will likely take you vs someone they don’t know but still ask for a lower rate. Personally it’s better to work at 20-40% lower rate for longer than not work at all. COVID slowdown is going to be the case through Q1 2021 in my opinion.

@FAD1 In normal times, hell yeah. I even tried to get a colleague to raise rates on a project we were both going for (competing with each other) because someone else on the project was making market rate, and we were equally qualified, but I knew that their rates were 25% lower, and guess who got the job? Not me.

Was your old higher rate also through a staffing agency or direct through the company hiring you? Staffing agencies take huge cuts.

ha, that would be a smart strategy :)

Y’all I’m really worried. My extended family had made plans a couple months ago to come together for thanksgiving but COVID is increasing exponentially and it’s just looking like a horrible idea. It’s 12 people from 7 different households. Some are flying some are driving. I really think it’s a bad idea but my 89 year old grandpa just got a stage 2 cancer diagnosis and honestly it might be the last time I ever get to see him. But then if he gets COVID he’s done for. I don’t know what to do.

What is your COVID safety practice? I strip off all my clothes as soon as I come home, take showers immediately so “outside germs” don’t touch the apartment interior, and wash my clothes immediately. My therapist mentioned this is a bit overboard - I’m curious to understand what others do and what practices are more “common” vs not

Curious how you manage working when a toddler is home from daycare due to covid exposure? I’m at a new company and this happened almost immediately - my spouse doesn’t work remotely and so it’s almost all on me (luckily I have family that are able to help when they can too). I was “working” but with a clingy toddler who doesn’t yet do independent play it was a challenge. I told my boss and my team but curious if you would cancel or reschedule meetings that you could? One on ones were impossible!

Friendly message for people new to crypto: All else equal in terms of project quality, tokenomics, etc., the price of an asset doesn’t matter when speaking about price potential. What matters is market cap. Ex. $1B market cap coin at 0.01 vs. $1M market cap coin at $5000. All else equal the $5000 coin has more pump/dump potential. I repeat, this is not financial advice and do your own research.
