Hey gang, when applying for a job, what’s the etiquette for connecting directly with the person who you would be reporting to through LinkedIn? Would it be considered creepy/ unprofessional? And if not, what’s the best way to approach it?

For context
It’s a role that I’d be a good fit for, but it’s at a company that gets a lot of applicants so I’m looking for opportunities to get a leg up.

I have two mutuals with this person, but I barely know them so can’t really ask for an intro.

Some recruiters/hiring managers have it on their headline to dm/message them. That’s the only situation where I think it would be ok to message recruiters/hiring managers.

The rest I’m assuming get annoyed by it. Especially if it’s for a role that’s high in demand. The best way to get noticed is through a referral.

I didnt connect with them but I did sent a short note expressing my interest in the role and actually had landed a phone interview with Instacart as Remote Sales Rep

I'm in the final round of interviews for two internal positions - both vertical. One has FTE's (my first such experience) and the other a much broader scope vs my current role

I had interviewed externally for a role on par w the internal roles, at a smaller and less established company. They confirmed +20% was in their range

Scored an awesome midlevel role at a remote agency that I negotiated to start in the new year.
I wanted a nice winter break before starting but also wanted to give my bosses plenty of time to find a replacement. I’m happy to stay till the holidays so I can finish up my responsibilities. We’re a small agency and I’m one of two ADs.
I know my leaving will be a shock to my team. Any tips for quitting a job when you really like the people? I have a meeting with my CD scheduled for tomorrow.

Hey Sharks,
I need some guidance on my career path.
I am a full stack developer with IBM serving notice period.
Tech stack is JAVA/SpringB/ Micros/Angular/ GCP.
I got an offer from Citi Bank / Wells Fargo which is a backend role only.
Now I got offer from JPMC but the tech stack is different, Its for Infrastructure team and technology does not have JAVA.
Its for React/ Node JS/ Python.
Also my biggest concern is it worth switching to JPMC for an infrastructure team and for a diff tech. YOE 9.

Have a big interview tomorrow. The question I dread the most is about why you’re looking for a new job. The honest answer is that there isn’t enough work to go around at my agency and I want to get ahead of the inevitable layoffs. What’s the best way to tell them this? Do I just make something else up entirely?

He's the kindest, sweetest person and we really love each other. But at some point I need my partner in his mid-30s to have a savings account 🤷‍♀️

Hi All,

Has anyone ever had to do the second step of an interview over slack? It was a legitimate company not a scam. The person I would be working with said the second interview after an assignment was over slack. They asked me in the first interview about my writing skills. They said since it's a remote company most people I'd never speak with directly and everything would be asynchronous through slack. Is this typical?

Anyone have tips for proper slack etiquette or resources to share?

Anyone have experience with a required on-site final interview for a fully remote job? I'll have already had an interview with the hiring manager and a teammate and a presentation of a case study. So with some of the team being fully remote and the role I'm interviewing for being fully remote I'm not sure what I should prepare for the on-site. I really want the role and want to respect their process but it's hard to justify visiting (across the country) and getting time off my current role.

‘Record a short video telling us a bit about yourself, why you’d like to work at the company, & what interests you about the role.’

Have to use Loom for this. I know with Loom you can do just video but would it be wise to make something for alongside it too? Like a PP - or is this too much? Want to go above and beyond as I love this role! Thanks!

Hello everyone, I messaged the program manager on LinkedIn regarding a job posting and had applied however I received an automatic msg from HR via email thanking and stated position filled. The PM replied to me over LinkedIn “sorry for the delay in responding. My team is currently all hired and I can keep you in mind for the next round as we are looking to expand in the new year.” Was this out of formality to reply back to me or will he really keep me in mind? My dream company…

After an interview this morning, I sent out what was SUPPOSED to be a thank you email. I really should have stepped away from my desk and put my full attention towards it, but instead I rushed through it and am now realizing I didn't even THANK HIM FOR HIS TIME OR THE OPPORTUNITY! Ugh.

Does it come off as entitled as I think it does?

When interviewing - either as the interviewer or interviewee - what of you think of the recommendation to say things like "What a great question!" or "I'm really glad you asked me that!" I personally find this to be false flattery. As an interviewer it turns me off. And, as an interviewee I try to focus on real answers to the question.

But, perhaps others have had success with this approach.

How would you expect to be rejected by a company if you went through 4 interview rounds (for a total of 2-2.5 hours) and met with 5 different people? Phone call? Generic copy and paste rejection email? Email with details and reasoning why? I’ve gotten several rejections after making it this far in an interview process but the latest one just rubbed me the wrong way. No reason for rejection, no personalized message, they didn’t even say they went with another candidate who is a better choice lol

I had a final interview with a company this past Monday, sent my thank you email within the 24 hour mark. When is it acceptable to send a follow up email on next steps?

So I just had an on-site interview with multiple people and wanted to send thank you notes. I don't have all their contact information so I going to write one to the director and ask him to pass along my thanks to his interview team. How detailed should a thank you note be?
