I just had two of the weirdest interview. I was interviewing for a payroll systems mgmt role and the first guy was a finance mgr and he didn't ask me anything. I basically interviewed him. The 2nd interviewer was the hr systems lead. She had read my resume and was super weirded out that my current role is the same as hers. I think she thought I was interviewing to replace her. She kept asking me what I would be doing. Like dude, do you not know why you are even interviewing me? Hard pass.

At what point does “ego” stop mattering? Over the past 5 years I’ve worked my way to being an Account Manager, but ultimately my career goal is to work for the government. There’s an opportunity to be an admin assistant working for the government, and would be a nice way for me to get in and move up. But the title change from Account Manager to Assistant is a big deterrent. Logically I know that it doesn’t matter, but emotionally it’s hard to feel like I am taking a major career step back?

I had 2 rounds of interviews with EY GDS. Followed by HR reaching out to get documents and relevant information. Please mind HR discussion has not happened yet.

Its been more than a week since there is no response from HR side/GDS team.

Does this mean that they did not consider me? Because I believe that HR asking for docs is a clear indication that I cleared my interviews.

Is this a norm? Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Any good recommendations reference textbook vs. online training that explains machine learning theory for a non computer science math type person. Have someone in my leadership chain kinda high up who wants a deeper understanding of ML but won’t be building real world models. I am thinking of more a guide to understand various terms thrown around like neural network, gradient boosting, F-score. something deeper than basic definitions but probably not full blown linear algebra either. I started at a new company 2 months ago and while I’m really enjoying my job so far, I’m having a hard time gauging whether or not I’m doing a “good job.” My role seems to be always evolving, which is fine and I actually enjoy being a support to the greater marketing team, but I feel like I need better defined targets to make sure I’m meeting expectations. I am currently a Director at Facebook in a non-tech team (think Marketing, etc.). Google contacted me for an L8 role. Due to stock appreciation and high ratings, I am right below $1M. Can Google match that for non-tech, or should I wait for an L9 role?

Have you ever heard about “Green Line Offer” process which is supposed to be a quicker version of the standard Hiring Committee to reach the offer stage? My recruiter told me about this yesterday and said it will take 2-3 days as the review is done “offline” so no need to wait HC to meet. This was completely new to me. What’s the difference between being an account strategist vs. account manager (ad sales) in terms of responsibility and pay at Google?
