Doesn’t get any sadder than this
I find a company I could get behind working for… literally dive head first just to see if they really mean it… but of course they only exist on the *other* side of the globe. Does this resonate with literally anybody but me? https://www.quanticofinancial.com/blog/accountants-hate-their-jobs
I don’t know you, but I’m worried about you…That 130K “TC” at FedEx/UPS is as good as it gets for the 20% who reach target in this space…there is no next level of selling empty boxes where the OTE doubles, or even offers more than a single digit increase. Long time directors and newer VP’s in this industry barely get to $250K TC. Salesforce has hired many top performing AE’s from FedEx/UPS. I’ve been around a while, haven’t bumped into any account managers at FedEx/UPS who came from SF…So I’m assuming you just started searching for the next opportunity, and FedEx jumped on your application right away? I get it, money is money and in your current situation this is immediate gratification, but coming from Salesforce you can write yourself a much better ticket than this one…even if you went to Hubspot I wouldn’t be worried about you…but Salesforce to FedEx is a categorically backwards move! I think you already knew that!?
Agree with most of this…. However, if they are going to start you at around $100 base for field you are in good shape with their new career progression. Corp sales now have 4 levels each include 15-20% raise. If you go into parcel you do stand to make decent bonus, $30k in regional.
FedEx is a solid company. I wouldn't see it as a bad move at all.
I think there are plenty of AE roles in tech if you would like to stay in tech. Why are you interested in the FedEx role? AE roles are typically a 50/50 split with comp. Plenty of SMB AE roles out there in that pay range in tech if that’s what you’re wanting to do
YUP! Reached out to a friend who is an AE there and he said they’re struggling and on a hiring freeze. I’m at a ~500 person company and it’s the same.
Seeing that money is your focus here that would be a bad move. Your TC as an smb ae could easily be more than that and your ceiling in tech is much higher… enterprise AE’s in SF are at 300k OTE minimum.
Also, fedex is 50 years old and acts like it - would sell into a saturated market and you wouldn’t have near the same support for sales as you do in tech. In tech, your sales team is usually responsible for all your revenue. Corp sales revenue is a small piece of fedex’s overall revenue.
And go to** not not…augh
I would be cautious of the logistics industry right now. Coming from SF which is a non tangible product that appears instantly as soon as someone logs in, to FedEx where the product has to arrive on someone’s doorstep and if it doesn’t your getting a phone call with an angry customer.
Tech definitely has its challenges, but in a world of scarcity of products and scarcity of people to ship those products it starts to look a lot greener.
This is coming from someone who started in industrial product sales and made the switch to tech 4 years ago, would never go back.
Why would you leave tech to go to a logistics company? You’ll cap your earnings drastically. Do you know what the field reps make at salesforce? I know many making over 300k. I’d stay 1000% and work your way up. This short term bump is not worth it… your next promotion would be SMB which is 120-150k
Have you tried applying at SF for another position? Leaving SF to go to Fedex sounds absurd from the outside looking in. Is your work life balance manageable? Do you feel like you're being developed? Do you have faith in your CEO?
Before you make the jump for more money, make sure you write out a list of positives/negatives. Reach out to (multiple) reps who are currently in the role to make sure they're hitting plan and that they’re happy.
Obviously Glassdoor is a great resource to do some more research, but make sure you are checking for fake reviews. Companies with low ratings on GD are notorious for writing up fake reviews.
I've been in tech sales for my whole career. I started as an outside sales rep and moved into an AE rep with a new company. I've always thought of SF as the mecca of sales jobs, so think carefully before jumping ship.
That total comp FedEx is telling you is a Presidents Club level comp (i.e. the top 5% of earners) As a former AE there I just don't see that being realistic. It's a great company to work for but you're not going to make that kind of money there.
The salary jump seems very good. Why are you considering this dumb?
Exactly. This is a horrible move
I’ve worked for FedEx 13 years and my background was only done once back then. My husband was a manager. I see a red flag for sure that you even ask about the background co. That being said, if you have absolutely anything that could populate you need to tell them now. They do an extensive check and your offer is immediately resented if they find anything concerning that you didn’t disclose. However, if you disclose prior they are willing to evaluate and have hired anyways since you disclosed.
