Hey guys, currently a senior with a big 4 audit internship coming up this summer. Really excited about the opportunity but also nervous about full time experience post-internship, as I’ve heard how it can be. Obviously I can’t pass this up for the resume. Any thoughts or advice for a student soon to be entering public accounting

Be open minded and willing to learn. See this as a potential platform for something else. Or who knows, this may be your calling and you will make partner down the road

Public is a grind and it's hell. You'll learn a lot but you get paid peanuts for the hours worked. Either leverage your internship experience to score a spot in Advisory, or go in there with a plan to switch into Advisory or to exit into industry with a clear timeline. Accounting subreddit has plenty of posts around life in Public

Wondering if anyone knows of part-time gigs in this field. My current job is great, but I want to pay off debt faster, while maintaining some of my "data" skills.

I have written plenty of Stored Procs, ad-hoc, Functions, etc. in SQL Server. Administered SQL Server for a while as well, with permissions and roles and such. Was an ETL developer for a little while. Also did a lot of SSRS, some PowerBI, and a lot of just moving/transforming data, all over 5ish years. Any help is appreciated!

I have worked in municipal government for almost 17 years. I love what I do as an Inspector, but the environment is toxic, and administration horrible. I have an opportunity to go into the private sector side, as well a second interview for another municipality doing same job. Private sector job will pay 35,000 more but will be 3 hrs away my husband is in law enforcement and can’t leave due to his position. Concerns are: private sector and when recession hits, it’s construction, away from hubby

Hi everyone,

I have recently joined a VC firm as portfolio analyst. Would like to know how I can grow in this firm, help this firm grow, how a portfolio department help the startups under them, how the department my more effective like what more processes we can build and what I should definitely learn from a VC.

My aim is to be able to help startups grow, to be able to advise them and all, and be able to understand the investment part as well.

Looking forward for your replies.

First time poster here!

After spending 4 years as a mid-level ops manager, I tried to break into HR through talent acquisition. Now after 6 years in TA, I've had a hard time getting out of it. My goal was always to get into a more broad HRBP position, but I've since worked for smaller orgs without a solid HR career path. When I ask about my career goals, they keep telling me, "Soon!" Or "Maybe in 6 months!"

I'm testing SPHR in June. Any advice for securing the type of role I'm aiming for?

I know if you’re in touch with admissions they may remember you when reviewing your app, but do schools note who they’ve met with identify targets that way?
