Hi All, I recently interviewed at Amazon and Google for software engineer and passed both interviews. I have an offer on the table from Amazon but with Google I am officially in team matching and my recruiter tells me that the queue is pretty backed up now and it can take a long time. My question is should I take the Amazon offer now or decline Amazon and hold out for Google? I have heard that Google has better wlb/benefits. But I'm scared to decline Amazon without a guaranteed job offer.

Hello, please help to enable DM
Ask them what their budget is for this role. Sometimes they will tell sometimes they won't. Companies share the budget with the role they are hiring for. If it's a good company and you really want to appear for their interview and they are not sharing their budget ask for 50-60% hike. At least do it initially, once you have an offer ask for higher than the current offer in hand.
After the interview if you feel that you could have asked for more or you feel you are not compensated according to the role then in HR round you can ask for a higher number and when HR says that initially you have given X number and now you are asking for more, you can say that 'Initially I was kind of forced to give a number, but after understanding the full scope of the role and the value I can bring to your company, I think fair compensation would be Y. Then take it from there. Negotiate hard.
It is really helpful reply.. Thank you shark 🦈
Cheers.!!
The way I deal with this is, I decide on basis of my current in hand package and average salary for that role in the market but always keep it in a range and open for negotiations. For example, if you in hand annual salary is 9 lpa and the role has average salary as 11 to 12 lpa. I will quote 14-15 lpa(generally go for a 50 % hike). Then when asked , i will first ask there budget for the role and negotiate on basis of that. There are other variables too like if you have multiple offers or increment letter with you. Take them into consideration as well. But this is absolutely my opinion and you can always have better methods😊
