Hey guys, I have an offer for big 4 external audit and forensics. I was wondering which should I choose? What would you guys choose? Which provides more interesting opportunities?

Not even debatable. Take forensics. If you decide you don’t like it and want to try audit you can transfer pretty easily. Trying to move from audit to forensics trends to be much more difficult.

like

Forensics, no question. You can always transfer into audit later but it’s much more difficult to transfer into a specialty group

Depends on your longer term goals. Do you enjoy bread and butter accounting? Want to be CFO? Head of IA, Accounting or FR? Go audit. Want less predictable, more niched, but usually more exciting work and travel? Want to work in risk, compliance, and/or investigations longer term? Go forensics.

like

Well when you put it like that who wouldn’t go for forensics

Planing on moving to NYC in the next 3 years with my husband. Been looking at potential jobs that I may be interested in for when the time comes and a lot of the ones I’m interested in says “big four experience preferred.” I work for a regional PA firm and wanted to see what everyone’s thoughts are. If I stay at my current job, I’ll be manager by the time I leave for NYC or should I make the jump to B4 soon? Does “B4 preferred” outweigh my chances even if I’m a manager when comes down to it?

Alright so fine there were not many diversity initiatives in the past and not a huge push to create more diversity in organizations. But now is the time you can change that. Moving forward you can put these these initiatives in place.
