Hey guys I'm a fresh law graduate who has done CS (Company Secretary) course and as such my specialization is, for the most part, company and securities law. My father is a lawyer who specialises in indirect tax litigation and wants me to join him. I however am thinking of entering into a transactional role and hence seeking a job in a corporate advisory. Should I give litigation a chance or should I go on and seek a role in corp law?

Depends on what you want. Transactional roles would be less likely to get you in a courtroom while litigation with your dad will get you in their sooner rather than later. Litigation is also a skill that goes well in all jobs. Skills in litigation work in transaction. Just comes down to networking.

I'm not really interested in courtrooms and I know I'm theoretically strong in corp law, I feel like transactional should be the better choice. I'm not really well versed in indirect taxes but my dad is still saying give it a thought

Maybe it’s better to blaze your own path. If you end up hating it, you can always fall back to your father’s practice if he didn’t cut off your hand/let you fall into the abyss for not joining the dark side

Thinking about getting into valuations. Anyone have any insights about this path in Big4 and in industry? Specifically I’m wondering: 1) what’s the scope of work like at Big 4? Working 9am - 3am consistently? 3) what exit opportunities exit after the Big 4 experience? 4) how does Compensationfor HCOL seniors/ manager look this year?
