Hey hey all, I am toying with moving back into consulting. One of the major issues I feel I would have is the ability to do business development. Any tips on how it's done, especially at junior partner level.

There are hundreds of books, and thousands of hours of training on sales and business development. For the classics, check out "The Trusted Advisor" for a book, and franklin covey sales training.

Interesting move, OP. Can I DM you for more context? Have been considering stepping away from consulting into CoS roles, but would always like the option to come back open.

Yup dm away. For context I was a mckinsey Sr Em; my whole leadership team decided to leave the firm after a tiff with office leadership so I had to either spend a year working with people I didn't like working with or find something else. I found a CoS position at a real estate city developer which pays well (+250k)with chilled lifestyle but its boring, no learning and political. I've been approached by recruiters for bcg and bain to join as principal and senior manager respectively. I am currently evaluating it.

I've heard multiple people say at a certain age, it no longer makes sense to make partner. What does that even mean? I know you typically have to be a partner for 10 years to fully vest in the pension. But even if I were a partner for just 2 years, isn't it still better to be a partner? Year 1 partner comp might be almost same as your comp the year you made partner due to health insurance and buy in, but it's not like you're worse off as a partner. And you get your buy in back when you leave.
