Hey, I’m currently a PM, only about 2-2.5 years in but the role has never felt like great fit. For example I find myself overly delivery focused.

Has anyone considered pivoting to/or has pivoted from Program Manager? And what are your thoughts?

Whether or not you’re delivery focused is going to have less to do with your title and more to do with how the organization treats Product/Program Managers, so don’t expect a title change to be a silver bullet

like

This. For example my COO thinks a product manager is a project manager. I’m trying to figure out a why to let him down gently because a project manager is not what I am

R u a program manager or a product manager

If product manager, then program manager might be a good switch!

Have you looked into technical product management roles? Those tend to slightly more delivery focused but require more technical skills

I’ve worked with program managers, I would say it’s a more stressful job with more variable hours and less salary potential. Easier to move from product to program then vice versa

like

Change companies! I’ve had a delivery focused product role that drove me up the way because I was always pushing for deadlines and getting things out the door. Try and find a place that focuses on outcomes and the customer more and it could be a better fit

like

I think you need to look to what you want to do. Many companies define product managers difference things. I’m personally a purist on this front and I want my PM’s to own delivery but also the roadmap and strategy of their product. I only provide the “North Star” for them to aim towards.

Hi all - I am looking for some advice and possible future options. I have associate/senior KPMG experience and moved to industry working in investment accounting. I have passed the CPA exam and am looking at getting the CFE. It seems like a lot of forensic/fraud positions are based in IT/programming or other computer based skills. Are there avenues in fraud/forensics that would be open to someone with my experience? If so, are there any skills/certs that I would need to be a desirable hire? TIA!

Hey all, I'm a Product Manager 9 months into a Big4 consulting manager role. I've come to the conclusion that although I can succeed in consulting, my preference is to own the roadmap and have a larger influence on the 'what' for a product instead of offering recommendations and executing on another PMs backlog. I've now accepted an offer as PM at a well SaaS product company, where I will have a more hands on role, shaping the product and delivering valuable outcomes. Thoughts welcome! :)
