Go at night instead of during the day to see the monuments. Ben’s Chili Bowl is a local icon but I would pass on that (way better options around).
Second this! Nighttime monument tour is best!!
Say hi to my grandpa (buried in Arlington) for me! 🤍
Agree with checking out the monuments at night, could go to the Smithsonian (I like the Air & Space museum) or Library of Congress during the day, definitely walk around Georgetown (grab some baked and wired cupcakes or levain cookies); also you can walk from Arlington to Georgetown across the Key Bridge if you want :)
Food:
There is tons of yummy ethnic food in DC!

I’d recommend A Baked Joint for breakfast. Personal preference is the Crème Brûlée French Toast
Are you interested in the monuments, museums, or other attractions?
Iwo Jima memorial in Arlington
I visit DC regularly but rarely do much of the tourist stuff. I agree that the monuments are beautiful at night, recommend renting a bike to explore the mall area. As for food, I don’t have any stand out recommendations other than broadly saying try cuisines you don’t generally have access to - DC has so much diversity and I always love trying new foods that I can’t get at home. The rooftop bar at the W (think there is another nearby too?) has nice views. The Wharf is a fun area to explore including a tiki bar and another rooftop spot, and Georgetown is super cute to walk around including down to the water. Will updates if I think of anything else :)
DCA is Washington National airport.
It's already named after one president, it never needed the addition of Reagan...who is already honored with other buildings in DC.
Lots of people in DC will give you side-eye and possibly correct you if you call it Reagan. Some won't even comprehend what you're referring to.
Also, Arlington is really nice...mostly an extension of DC, but with more of a normal city vibe. All of the other comments so far on what to do are good. Take in the history if it's the first time.
I would actually push back hard against the spy museum. With so much great free options it’s not even close to worth the price
Def check out monument at night! Lafayettes rooftop for a nice view and fancy ambience. Gravelly point for a picnic and watch the planes fly by. Alexandria for the waterfront and lively crowd. There’s tons of food options in dc. Try out my fave dive bar - kingfisher. Georgetown for some fancy brunch and a nice downtown. You could try out some Ethiopian food if you wanna try a different cuisine cos I don’t see this much elsewhere except dc or sf. The whiskey bar in the basement at the crimson dc is really nice, check out the rooftop while you’re at it as well! There’s tons of speakeasies as well.. chicken and whiskey is always a good time. Downtowns being Adam’s Morgan, U street, 14th street, 18th street - all a good time at night!
Forgot wharf but I feel like the food and restaurant options here are quite limited.. the rooftops have a nice view but don’t have the best ratings, but no harm checking the area out. I love the bananarama at cantina Bambina. Whiskey Charlie is a nice rooftop for the viewz. Walking around the memorial is pretty nice in the evenings!
It’s my first time going so definitely planning to see the popular monuments at least
If you want to see DC why are you staying in Arlington?
