In my opinion, acrylics are passé. 1990’s passé. (Yes, I realize there are nail salons that do this on practically every street corner in US cities.) Short, neat, polished nails - or unpolished - look modern and also professional. These look like you don’t work much.
A1 and M3 I am not agreeing or disagreeing ad I feel both of your statements are valid. That being said, A1 a person doesn't have to know what culture you're a part of in order to feel you're being culturally insensitive. Even people withing the culture can be culturally insensitive. As examples, most Americans are culturally insensitive to other Americans. People from Alabama and California can be very culturally insensitive to each other though they ate both from an American culture.
For some people in some cultures acrylic nails are a staple, in others not so much.
Both are correct when speaking for themselves. Whether decorated or plain we can all choose how to present ourselves and should be accepted. Our opinions on our own personal preferences should also be respected. No one told another not to wear acrylics, she just gave her personal opinion on why she chooses not to and wouldn't advise others to do so if asked. That is very reasonable.
We can all have space, there's enough for everybody.
Girl do what you want to do! I’ve been doing dip powder so far and that lasts like 3 weeks no chip. Also, I’ve literally seen and spoke to Directors at work with acrylics lol no one cares as long as it’s neat.
I’ve had acrylics and just longer nails in general (my nails grow very long very fast) and it hasn’t been a problem. Just don’t go too long without a fill
The length and shape, a muted color or nude like what is pictured (minus the shiny ring finger)
Very pretty! I’m not sure I’d be able to differentiate this from a regular painted nail. Unless maybe I looked really really closely.
I think they are fine even if you have a bit or shine to them. I’ve had rose gold glitter, silver glitter, red glitter, navy, black and dark gray nails just let n the last 5 months. As long as they are well-maintained you should be good.
Pro tip think about finding someone who can do dip powder. My manicures last for at least three weeks and they hold up incredibly well
I used to wear acrylics, and now i do dip powder. I keep my nails a medium-Long length and I haven't had any issues. Usually compliments! I think the picture you used as an example looks great and is definitely not tacky
Dip is the way to go.
I do dip powder as well- lasts forever. I think the look you posted is fine, I use to keep my nails very neutral and “professional” looking, but I already dress like Mary Poppins and need to break out of character somewhere. I sometimes add a little glitter or design- was reluctant for work at first but have honestly gotten nothing but compliments. So go for it.
Been doing dip powder for 2 years now and love it! I do a more professional color, mostly just neutrals. Because it’s dip powder I can also keep my nails a bit longer without them breaking while typing on a laptop all day
Eek sorry but in my opinion those are a no. I know obviously you’re not hurting anybody else with what nails you choose but I don’t think they’re appropriate for work. I associate them with a kardashian-like face painted full of makeup for some reason.
Sorry I really didn’t mean to be harsh!! I put the “eek” on there on purpose to convey a silliness. And now I’m thinking too much of it, ha!
OP - how strict is your workplace? Do people dress creatively/authentically or more professional? Sadly we are still judged harshly for every last detail, so I might err on the side of conservative. You might be able to “get away” with this nail shape if it were a French mani or true glossy nude, the matte looks more kardashians.
My direct report wears acrylics but at a tasteful shape and size (usually nude or baby pink, and shaped round). I would think they were her natural nail if she didn’t tell me - but her nails look elegant and professional
Interesting. I find baby pink to be more unprofessional and prefer dark muted colors. I'm also from a culture where long nails are the go to.
I really hate this idea of “professionalism” and how everything I would like to do with my body is regulated down to my nails.
OP, if you aren't keen on acrylics try the Sally Hansen gel range. They last if you do it with proper base and top coat. I don't like to cover my cuticles for a longer period as I want to periodically expose nails to air, water without any chemical layer on them. But that's me.
These acrylics and shape are fine! I wear my nails that length - wouldn't do longer except I need to be able to type fast 🤣
Pretty nails. I just use gel over my real nails. I can't function with nails on.
Do you have a photo of it?
I would recommend soft gels. No filing, lasts for weeks, looks more appropriate for work. Also agree with SM1, as long as your nails are maintained, it is ok.
