Hey ladies- bit of a touchy personal subject. I had my male counterpart recently use a counteroffer that was extended to me to try to push his own raise. Should I feel offended that he's piggybacking off my offer? (We do not have same work balance for context- he has 4 direct reports to my my 1 direct report and the same workload).

No, it’s annoying but it doesn’t affect you. You still get the raise you asked for and if anything, it just gives you another baseline to fight for another increase in future. I wouldn’t hold resentment against the individual for taking a chance - I would hold my judgement for the decision maker and how they decide to value you.

It sounds like you’re saying he has a bigger team so more support? I’m not sure if I’m interpreting that correctly, but if so and you have the same amount of work I’d imagine he could flip that logic to say he’s managing more people. Could you use *that* as an opener about getting more support? Managing more people will add to your value.

I manage an additional department so I have his same workload + another department heads worth of work, so a little imbalanced.

Unless this was supposed to be an attempt to fix inequity, no. Counteroffers typically result in the company being able to retain the employee for another year at most. With all of the competition for hiring right now, they may have felt like they needed to ensure he's staying if they think you're still a flight risk.

might be fun to constantly egg him “Hey Jim, there’s donuts in the break room and I had one so I thought you’d want to know so you can try to get one too”

The petty in me might do just that 😂

I received an offer from another agency (Agency B) that's a 15% pay bump, but I am happy at my current agency (Agency A). I have asked Agency A for a raise to match that (not mentioning I had another offer) but it will take them a few weeks to come back to me, and Agency B are wanting a response soon... What do I do? Do I go for the money? Do I tell my boss I have another offer on the table?

Is the grass always greener. I’m super happy in my current job. I like my coworkers, I get to do the projects that I want, and I have an all around good support network. I have also built my reputation up enough to the point where I have a lot of flexibility and can control how I work. But sometimes it bothers me knowing that I could leave and get a significant raise. Reading fishbowl it seems like everyone chases money regardless of how happy they are currently

Signed an offer last year during the worst of the pandemic for a lower level than my peers. Been with the firm 5 months now. Advice wanted: My firm lied about our raises this year. They said we’d match the other top 10 firms, and that was absolute BS. I’m having a hard time staying motivated. I’m doing senior level work without the title or pay. Fresh college grads are getting paid more than me. I’m already job searching, but I feel bad that I don’t have the same drive as I did before when I thought I would be receiving a proper raise. I learned my lesson. Any advice for a young professional?

I am torn on taking the job offer because my manager told me I was getting promoted at the end of the year to a data analyst. I really like my job and team so leaving would be tough, but this raise is something to consider.
