The account is local and that makes my life easy, but I may end up doing another project on a topi that I am not passionate about at all. Going after projects on the topic I love would mean working outside the account, potentially upsetting a partner on the account, traveling weekly, but working in the area I see my career.
Have any of you come across situations like this?
May depend also where you are in life. Earlier in life I chose excitement and topic. Now I am optimizing for being as much with family as I can. No regrets. I would say though that I’d always prioritize liking the people I work with ahead of topic, but that’s just me - people make me more happy than a chosen topic.
Go for the work you love. I am in the same scenario and am being pressured to stay in the account. I cannot see the benefit for me (or anyone) in staying in an account and trying to being passionate about a topic I am not interested in. I’m also sure there is someone else in my firm who would love my account job and it’s a better fit for them as they will bring energy and passion to it. I figure the partner may be upset in the short term however longer term outcome may be far better.
What level are you, OP, and what are your long-term aspirations?
