Hey ladies, I’m in the middle of a career dilemma. I switched to industry from federal consulting 6 months ago. The company I joined hasn’t been the best. I did get a large pay bump (75 -> 105). There isn’t a ton of diversity (I’m a POC woman), and have felt belittled at times from male colleagues. The working hours have been rough too. When I joined my current job, I had severe anxiety and started Zoloft. That with therapy helped tons in managing my day to day. However, I have an offer cont...

You sound just like me earlier this year. Took a huge pay increase to jump to industry. I left after 4 months because it was just awful - I felt like I didn’t fit in and my anxiety was through the roof. I took a slight pay cut to leave, but still way way ahead of where I was 6 months ago. I’m a month in to the new role and it’s sooo good. I’m way more relaxed and productive. Life is too short to be miserable. Don’t worry about the dates on your resume... think about it as a chapter in the story of your career.

I have an offer from an aerospace & defense contractor but it’s for 95k (that’s after negotiating too). I’d be going back to fed contracting work. But the working hours seem way better and they approved me for a 9/80 schedule (every other Friday off). I’m unsure how bad it looks to leave after only 6 months at my current company. But I honestly only think I’m okay here because of work from home - which is coming to an end. My company is forcing everyone back in by July. And there were no remote working options pre pandemic. The new offer has telework options, something that I miss. The workload seems better too. But I don’t know if I want to have clients again - not having them here has been super nice. Sorry for the novel. I just keep going back and forth and even a pros and cons list doesn’t help :(

Leave. Up to you if you want to explain all your reasons or not. But any company that is forcing back on site will lose workers to remote roles, and that's an easy card to play for why you're leaving. They changed your work environment, you found one that's a better fit

It’s not a reduction if it results in the same pay/hours worked. :)

See if you can negotiate the new offer to match your current job, or at least get it up some. I feel like you are in a good negotiating position- companies are looking for good women of color. Good luck!

Besides decently high pay (compared to other countries), freedom (speech, voting, "opportunities"), diversity (primarily coastal states), what are some other good things about America? Wanna be grateful, but America's deepest flaws have really been exposed this past year (racism, government inefficiencies, struggling health care systems, expensive health care, gun violence, poor grade school education systems...). Don't see these getting better anytime soon

So I had an interview last Friday for a contract to hire role that I thought went really well. So up until today there wasn’t a peep from the recruiter hiring for role, so I reached out. The recruiter then asked me how comfortable I was in a fast paced environment. I responded by telling her that after working a mix of agency and client side, yes. I honestly thought the answer was pretty self explanatory. She then pushed for more details, which I provided an example of. Red flag?

A former Manager reached out about an e-commerce manager role for a relatively young company doing $35M/year. The role manages inventory on the site (20 skus), CRO, and Analytics plus the e-tailers (Amazon). They launched a site redesign and CVR tanked, but from what I gather they have too much of a focus on Paid Social and upper-funnel tactics. They’re hiring for a Demand Gen Analyst/Manager from a different manager. So, the roles report into different people. Question below:
