Hey McCann Health—I saw your job posting for a CD with 10-15 years experience. So in other words don’t bother if I have more than 15 years experience (aka 40 or older). Ok got it.

Pretty sure that means “at least” 10-15.

Your first reply said their range meant “at least.” I posted the x+ years examples because they also show a range literally in the same posting, a juxtaposition that debunks the claim that a range means “at least”. It proves a range means a range. PAY range can be addressed by posting the role’s title. The pay range is implied by the title itself. Pay can also be addressed by simply posting the actual pay range. Sometimes a very senior person might intentionally want to temporarily take a lower-level, lower-paying freelance gig, for a myriad of reasons. Why is it OK to exclude them? Enforcing a hard maximum on experience has ageist effects, whether it’s intentional or not. Systematic ageism isn’t going to correct itself.

Every agency that practices ageism needs to be called out.

How about a massive class Action lawsuit from everybody over 40 has been laid off but can show top performance? And everybody over 40 who’s been denied an interview or a job opportunity with a recruiter sees their age?

like

Definitely ageist. The old “experience range” loophole that allows for ageism. Vayner Media is a repeat offender for this kind of thing, too.

I honestly have done an experience range of 3-5 years on a role, mainly to let people know where the pay falls for that specific opportunity. I already know that I cannot afford the salary a person with 10+ years of experience would command. So it’s not all bad intent... sometimes you just don’t want to waste people’s time.
