My place of work has us stop working two weeks before our due date. I thought that was a really good amount of time.

I worked until the day before to maximize my time after. If possible I recommend taking off the week before your due date.
Im planning on going until day of unless I can’t and already spoke to my boss about that (due middle of February) we’re using January 20 as a cut off for anything with a deadline to make sure if I need to be done earlier or if I simply change my mind and just want to be I can still feel settled and not leave anyone in a lurch
Two weeks prior to due date was enough to set up the nursery and nest

So I’ve had 2 42 week children. This time, I stopped working at 38 weeks and that was WAY too long. The other time I was ill and had to stop at 37 weeks. Oh my god, so bored. You unfortunately can’t plan it but if this is your first kid, plan to go to at least 39 weeks. So I might stop working at 38
I think it also depends on the state too? I have heard it is 4 weeks in NJ.
You are correct. It is 4 weeks in NJ. They cover 85% of your pay (up to a certain amount)
I worked until 38 and change with both kids and delivered within days of not working. (One non-medicated, one medically elective induction.) I planned to work until delivery and pretty much did. I considered taking off a week early and probably would have stopped at 39ish weeks if I hadn’t gone into labor.
Waited until I gave birth. There’s really not so much to do while you wait (except have too much time to think and panic ha) and you’ll want the time after with your baby. Plus I was soooo uncomfortable at the end that work was a welcome distraction!
I stopped working the day before my due date and ended up being induced 10 days after my due date. I did not expect to have that much time off but It was nice to have the opportunity to switch the mindset from work to nesting. If you can take a week off before giving birth I think that’s perfect.

I planned on stopping the day before my due date. Any time outside of STD was counted as sick time, and I only had so much to use.
But I was a week late. So in that week I was past my due date, I set a time with HR that would be my absolute last day with an induction date set the next day. I ended up going into labor a day before my “absolute last day” lol so it all worked out.
The most important thing is to have finalized before your mat leave starts is that offboarding plan! Regardless of when your last day is, make sure your plate is not full to the brim. Delegate projects to others and block off that calendar to protect yourself. I’m talking mid-day naps and walks, hard stops, actual lunch breaks.
Check with your job to see if you have short term disability. I stopped 4 weeks before my due date and received full pay. I work for KPMG.
They only cover 60% via STD 😞
Nice you’re was covered 100%! Great plan
