Hey moms, How do contractions really feel? FTM and I’m starting to feel a little pain in the lower part of my belly. Given I usually have a high tolerance for pain(after a ton of sports injuries) not sure what is true labor/contraction pain. Trying to avoid a car baby or a lobby baby😅 P.S: I don’t have a lot of pain during my period (which is what my mum keeps saying it’ll feel like). So unfortunately that reference hasn’t helped! Any advice helps!!

Did you still have enough time to get to the hospital VP1? I’m around 40 mins away from mine and this is my biggest worry!

Like really bad period pain, but more concentrated

I don’t have a great description other than increasing and intense pain, tightness in your whole midsection, and breathing like you’re working out. But you will know if they get longer in duration with shorter breaks in between over time. Follow the instructions the doctor should’ve given you to track how long they last and how long in between. There can always be exceptions but generally labor will take longer if it’s your first delivery. https://www.whattoexpect.com/pregnancy/symptoms-and-solutions/labor-contractions.aspx

This about the 6-1-2 point. I’m going to write this down! 😅

If it’s a ‘little’ pain, it’s probably not active labor. If it’s the real deal, the pain will become progressively more intense until it becomes unbearable and unrelenting. Unless you’re someone with precipitous labor, it’s also suuuuuper unlikely to have a labor or car baby. If you’re still cheerfully talking, it’s not labor :) even with a high pain tolerance, you will be feeling the pain by the time active labor really gets going!

It felt vaguely like bad period pain, and was accompanied pretty quickly by bleeding. Contracting “tightness” in my lower belly and pelvis that didn’t go away after 30 mins, then 60, then 49 hours. 😂

40 hours from first contraction to holding baby here - solidarity.

funny

For me, contractions weren’t super painful in the early labor/pre-labor stages and felt nothing like a period. You should be able to see/feel a true contraction - your belly will tighten up and get really hard.

helpful

We sound very similar and I had a lot of cramping very low when I went into labor, it wasn’t the normal contraction feelings I had heard of that start from the top of your stomach to the bottom.

helpful

My experience followed what the books say about Braxton Hicks vs true contractions - true didn’t go away with moving around / changing positions and they got more intense and they were my entire stomach/back, not just in one place like lower belly.

helpful

Also I KNEW when I was in labor. There was no doubt. At first I thought “is this labor? This is uncomfortable” and in 20 minutes I woke my husband as I knew...

helpful

Very early labor feels like heat in the center of the very low abdomen to me. To your moms point, yes it does feel like period cramps. But.... it should typically be pretty clear that you are in labor and if you are a first time mom it’s unlikely it would progress super fast

With my first, my water punctured (but didn’t fully break) so I went to the hospital then. Had a few contractions before the epidural. With my second, i was at a birthday party and felt uncomfortable (mainly in my back). When I got home and laid down I started to feel them all around and could tell they were coming at regular intervals.

helpful

I think it feels different for everyone, but if it doesn’t let up with drinking water/resting/warm shower I’d be inclined to think it’s contractions and not Braxton Hicks. My BH contractions also never got into the frequency that real contractions did. I noticed I was in labor more so because there was a repeating interval between contractions, not that it felt a certain way.

You all are just soooo wonderful! These replies give me so much more confidence and have put me at ease after a looooong day filled with nothing but anxiety! Thank you all!❤️

I'm not a mom yet (don't kick me out of the group!) but have been going through fertility and IVF treatments for more than 6 months. I'm constantly having bloodwork, appointments and calls with the doc during working hours. Any advice on what I can and should tell my team about my health? They can tell I'm in and out of the doctor's office and I suspect they think I'm pregnant. Maybe it's being chock-full of hormone pills, but I'm sensitive about everyone thinking I'm pregnant when I'm not.

Honestly... I feel like an ungrateful daughter for saying this but I cannot wait to leave my parent’s house. I’ve been WFH here since my job started in September, and I’ve loved being able to make up for lost time with them. But although they say they’re happy I’m home and want me to stay longer, I feel like I’ve wayy overstayed my welcome because everyone is irritable all the time and we now bring out the worst in each other. I’m constantly anxious about accidentally pissing someone off. Cont’d

Hi mommas. Slowly weaning 4 month old from breast milk and wanting to move to only formula by 5 months. I know lots of people get formula shipped from Europe but that seems too much of a hassle. What US formula are you using? We’ve tried happy baby organics and Bobbie and I’m not sure which one is better (debating if having probiotic is a plus or no). Any thoughts welcome!

Did your job change after mat leave? Going on Mat leave soon and manager is thinking of bringing in a new PM to handle my vertical and having me switch to a new one. I work on enterprise connecters currently in the iPaas space and would switch to Platform, which is totally different. On one hand its a good career move & valuable experience that I couldn't interview for without prior experience. On the other, scared to move into a new area outside comfort zone with a new baby and mom brain.

My school has been face to face for 7 weeks. The promise is that the kids on the school bus have to wear masks. One of my students recorded and uploaded a video to Youtube. In the video the kids were 3 to a seat, no masks, hopping across seats hitting each other. 😐 I had the kid take it off Youtube and sent the video to administration. What are we doing? It’s sickening.

Now that my school is completely in-person, I’m noticing that the students who were online last year are pushing back on everything we do in school. Following the most basic of rules, directions, or fun is a struggle. I teach 8th grade, but I coach in the high school. I’m seeing it across the board. Is anyone else seeing this too? Is your school or district addressing it with any preventative measures social-emotional supports?

EY moms (not in CA) - has anyone taken 6 months off after having a baby, taking unpaid LOA at the end after using mat leave and vacation? (I’ve asked this before but no response so I’m going to try again! I had really bad PPA right at 4-5 months with my first so hoping to take 6 months this time)

My brother and sister in law put their five month old in daycare for the first time on Friday. Yesterday they get told by the daycare that there was covid exposure, so they test him and he’s positive. So he literally got covid on his first day at daycare. No symptoms yet but wtf. We saw them on Saturday with our two week old so now we are freaking out that the two week old could have it (my mother in law literally used the other kids burp cloth to wipe my kids face when I wasn’t watching).
