Have you considered a nanny at home while you travel? Consistency and routine are really important for toddlers, but also depends on how long you're going to be gone.
I would not be capable of work travel without an extra adult (spouse, nanny, grandparent, cousin, friend) who was willing to provide childcare. I’ve traveled for work globally & domestically for almost 15 years and I’ve never traveled to a city where access to immediate childcare would be a reasonable expectation. While I have a very progressive employer, my work would expect my child to stay home with childcare, that an adult spouse / family member is with me if my child is on a work trip, or that I simply not travel. I have heard stories of rich execs traveling with nannies but I wouldn’t be able to afford to that.
You could find an international college student looking to be a live-in nanny on the side. A lot of them appreciate free room and board and a stipend for the week.
How often do you travel? Do you always travel to the same place? If you travel often to different locations, taking your LO with you and you alone is not an option. If you always travel to the same place and have a set schedule, you can do part time daycare there and another part time daycare here. It is going to be tough and chaotic. Your best option would be hiring someone to look after the kid when you are away and hopefully not too often.
Is the father far away? Can you drop her off at his place if you travel, I know he's in a different state but like NY NJ it could still be pretty doable.
Taking your little one with you without solid, in-place relationships with local child care providers In cities to which you will travel will be very, very difficult. The US childcare system is a mess even for people who are in the same city all of the time. There are such things as drop-in childcare centers, for example there’s a chain called Skiddadles that specializes in this, but they’re really only meant for a few hours at a time. (Think parents night out.)
You’re probably looking at a live-in nanny for when you travel. Or arranging to fly in a family member for those days, which actually might cost less than a nanny.
Good luck to you.

I would do a cost/benefit analysis because a live in nanny while you're traveling is going to be expensive.

Most firms won’t require you to travel if they know your situation. Plenty of work to be done remotely or in a hub city.

A good nanny that is willing to stay overnight.

My single mom traveled a decent amount while I was younger (like 3 weeks home then 1-2 weeks in Asia plus domestic trips in between), we had live in nannies the whole time.

Hi! How old is your little one?
No.
Do you have bright horizons back up child care with your company? It might be worthwhile to look into this, and then you could travel with your kid and use the backup care to take care of your kid at the hotel while you are working

I was going to suggest the same thing. I know northern trust used bright horizons for backup care when I worked there and we got 15 days a year for like $25 a day. No idea what they charge somebody whose company isn’t covering part of the copay though. I will say, they are reliable and have backup care down to a science. I’d feel comfortable taking my kids to a bright horizons in any city and trust that they would get the same experience (or close to) at every location.
If your job requires travel you need a nanny or a lot of back up for daycare. I travel for work and something always comes up - they’re sick and need to be picked up, or my flight gets delayed etc. if you travel for work you can’t just have daycare - and if you can’t pay for both a nanny and daycare, or don’t have family close by to help, you need a nanny.
