Why wouldn't they let you try stimulants to see how they affect you has your own unique individual, rather than using flawed textbook analysis? Regardless of what meds you end up taking, you deserve better care. Stay strong 🙏
No tenex is for kids. Strattera didn’t work for me. I just don’t think I have bipolar. I never had a manic episode in my life.
Do whatever you need to do. Fly interstate, search for online docs - don’t let ur current psychiatrist control your life :)
I was also going to suggest searching online docs. I had to do the same thing a few years back. I was able to get into an online doctor same day and get it all straightened out.
ask a trusted loved one if they see signs of bipolar, often people with bipolar don’t see it. My ex was diagnosed bipolar and to this day he never agreed. A book by Xavier Amador shared about 50 percent patients lack insight into their condition. https://www.amazon.com/Not-Sick-Dont-Need-Help/dp/0967718929
just food for thought
That seems like a doctor specific requirement. I was also diagnosed with mild bipolar disorder and I still take Ritalin. My doctor explained to me that bipolar disorder is an extremely wide spectrum and if you’re on the mild end like me (extremely mild mood swings and mild anxiety) then you’re not at risk for going manic. Would recommend getting a second opinion.
This!
Please wait on your doctor. You will want to rule out bipolar for sure. I know that's not what you want to hear, but ignore the stigmas and let your doctor do their job.
Why can’t you take stimulants? Did they say
I have bipolar and ADHD and take stimulants. Have for years. Just FYI. Works great for me. Good luck in your fight. Keep advocating for yourself.
Nonstimulant meds? Have you looked into Strattera?
