Retirement benefits vary widely by firm. Big 4 generally have generous pensions, though of course those are funded with what is essentially deferred compensation. At other firms the in-year compensation is higher but you're on your own to fund retirement. Big 4 is structured this way due to mandatory retirement of Partners. And they have that to ensure enough flow out of the partnership to admit a reasonable number of new partners.

This is very firm specific. If you want to know the situation at your firm, I suggest you ask around among friendly senior folks.

Hey all! Currently live in DC and thinking about moving to either: Los Angeles, Austin, Seattle, or stay in DC. Where would you move/live considering: cost of living, housing prices, and job market. I feel like LA has a rough job market in terms of competitiveness of applications compared to DC/Austin but benefits elsewhere. Feel free to share anything else I should know! Thanks!

Prior to 1983, social security was not taxable. Joe Biden voted successfully in favor of taxing 50% of social security. In 1993, Joe Biden was the deciding vote in raising taxes on social security from 50% to 85%. Now he wants to tax our 401k's and IRA's (page 78, Dems' platform)

Started a job at a tech company. People, culture, hours, benefits/pay is great. However, the role is not what I was expecting. It’s junior & administrative/sales oriented. I thought it would be more analytics & strategy based. Just got another offer for a corporate strategy role. Culture isn’t great, pay/benefits aren’t as good but decent, but I’d learn so much more in the role & it’s a manager title . What do I do? I’m early in my career. I’m happy rn but the role isn’t good career wise

I’ve seen a couple posts lately with comments saying that people should not use a Roth 401k. Does the logic below capture the spirit of that concept? 1. Use trad. 401k to reduce taxable income now. Convert to trad. IRA once retired, then convert gradually to Roth IRA (ladder, SEPP, etc.) at lowest marginal tax rate 2. Use Roth IRA (and/or backdoor Roth) to take advantage of tax free growth and ability to withdraw principal early without penalty

Big 4, it's safe/comfortable/addictive and Im addicted to being on cruise control. Anyone else been through the same?
