Hey peeps! In your opinion what is the one book that every PM must have in his collection that will help with their career progress into being an expert?

I'm considering switching my practice from tax to exec comp so that I can work remotely indefinitely. If I dislike it, do you think it would be difficult to switch back? I'm a 4th year that works in biglaw.

What certifications are good for technical project manager? I was thinking to start with PSM and PSPO and then move to ITIL, ITSM. Not sure about this though. Not planning to do PMP as I think it’s more waterfall focused. Was also thinking about AWS. Any other certifications recommended?

Outside of FAANG, what are good large CA-based tech companies that provide good pay, WLB, and culture? DD has great people and WLB, but pay is low and you’re not given the tools and resources to succeed + truly make an impact. Google and Apple are ideal but need backups. Like is Salesforce still good? So happy to finally be posting with my new title! I’ve been looking to get into a Product department since early 2020. In my case resilience was key in the face of constant, daily rejections. Also I’m in my 40s so don’t lose hope! It’s never too late to pivot your career.

Any thoughts around how to use M&A tax skills for the better good? I’m a CPA and originally got into this for a stable / interesting job, but in the long-term I’d like to do something that either influences drafting of tax legislation or helps the public (however naive that may sound). Perhaps I’ve gotten too introspective during the pandemic. Don’t really want to go back for a JD and aside from keeping a roof over my head I’m not very motivated by money. I have two referrals for a position that I’m trying to apply to, however only one of the employee referrals is showing “attached” to the application. I accepted both employee referrals and they both show under my google account, but for the specific job application (which hasn’t been submitted yet) that one referral just won’t show up!!

Really struggling at work:
I’m in that awkward stage between a PM and Senior PM and the expectation from me is to be proactive, strategic and work independently. However I’ve struggled massively due to lack of experience, sometimes knowledge and not having the ability to see the bigger picture so I don’t know what else is required or needed to move the needle.

It's my first month in a new job as Product Owner. I went from a company that digital product development was their secondary focus along with consultancy services, to a company that their only focus is the product. Is it common to offer signing bonuses for product managers? I've only worked in small companies and I'm currently interviewing at a much larger company. I am expecting an offer this week, but the salary isn't quite where I want it to be. A signing bonus of 5 or 10k would make me feel so much better (obviously) but it would put me right where I want to be for salary this year. I'm taking a cut in salary to consider this new job but I like the company and they actually offer benefits

Need some Advice.. I’m a professional MBA student that was working FT and used an PM internship to transition into the space. I stepped in for an actual PM who was on leave and was doing real work. In august they extended my internship to Nov. Yesterday, They offer me a FT APM role, but it starts July 10 and have to respond by 10/15. Internship still ends in Nov, so no employment for 7 months.
