Can upcoming recession result in layoffs for people on bench? US advisory practice.

Been working for 2.5 years, been laid off twice along with many others, and I've been looking for a job since August. I'm feeling lost and confused. Where do you find mentorship and guidance?

With so much uncertainty in the economy and waves of layoffs that have hit tech especially hard... do we think there's really such a thing as a recession-proof job anymore if you're not an "essential worker"?
