Hey Recruiters! I need some advice / insight-
I have been in media planning and strategy for 2 years now (straight out of college) but am looking to make a career change. I've always been interested in Talent Acquisition but don't know where to even begin making that jump. I would love to stay in the Advertising industry but want to try out the Talent Acquisition area. Does anyone have any tips on how to get started making that jump?

My recommendation - those moves are typically more successful when you transition within your current company rather that look elsewhere. Imagine a TA lead is looking to hire a recruiter and has 5 resumes in front of them - 4 of which are experienced recruiters and the 5th one is yours. You might indeed be the best recruiter they could hire but likely won't be called in for an interview as your experience on paper appears to not be relevant in comparison to other applicants. This is NYC so anything can happen but statistically in my view, you have a higher probability of success making this transition with people that know you versus people that don't. Hope you prove me wrong! :)

Agreed with MD1.
While most in-house teams would love to bring someone on with your working experience to bring into TA, I think your current place would appreciate the interest even that much more.
In the meantime, keep boosting your LinkedIn network (both in Strat/planning and TA).

I DM'd you!

Love this!! I did exactly what you’re asking. Was on the media side then transitioned into TA/recruiting/HR. I looked internally in the current company first and i also reached out to the TA team to ask more about their day to day.

It took patience, networking, research, rejection and referrals to finally land a TA/recruiting coordinator position. I recommend to 100% tweak your resume to the position you want and network on linkedin. Research the talent and hr team and make an educated guess that is the team hiring for the posted position. Send inmail, introduce yourself, say you applied, attach resume. Overall, if you’re very interested to make a career switch, it takes more than applying to the job. Stand out! All the best!!

Yes that’s what I did. When i first got my media job, I immediately knew I wanted to get into TA because of simultaneous research. I personally find it as my passion and I enjoy my job! Before I reached out to my recruiter who hired me, I waited atleast 6-8 months and worked my current hired job before I reached out. Kind of like “they hired me for this job and I was genuinely interested in the first place, let me get some experience first to see if it’ll change my mind” Nothing wrong to ask and seek advice within!

Q for associates in boutique litigation firms: When you’ve drafted a complaint/motion/brief to be filed, do the partners allow you to actually sign the filing in your own name? For context, I’m a new associate at a class action firm where there’s ample opportunity to do substantive work & pursue your own case ideas from the get go. Today, I’m getting ready to file a complaint I drafted when a partner told me to remove my signature & insert his instead. Is this standard?

I got a verbal offer from a WPP agency today. The role's budgeted salary is 5k less than my desired salary.
The recruiter can get me closer but still not at my desired salary. Otherwise - it would have to go through a long approval process with no guarantee that the salary would even be OK'd.
I'm coming from a small agency, so I could be wrong - but I don't want to sell myself short by accepting the first salary they offer. Do I have any room to negotiate? Or is that risky?

I received what appears to be a random email from an executive recruiter at a firm in NY. She has a client but can not disclose who it is at this time ( ie. Non disclosure agreement ). I sent my resume thinking not much of it. I just received an email saying that my “resume did not parse correctly into the Candidate Management System. In order to move forward, I need your ATS compatible resume ASAP. “
Why does this feel fishy to me? Can someone provide any additional insight

I got an email today from a recruiter about a CD job. The first line in the job description specifically says they are looking for design background, not copy. My current job title is Content & Copy Manager.

Do you actually look at applicants who apply through LinkedIn? It’s constantly “you’re in the top 25%, 10%, 5% of candidates for x position” and then silence when you hit apply/send. 🤔 Be honest
