Depends on the mistake.
Everyone makes them, but they’re not all the same. You need to ask yourself/try to figure out:
* was it because of something they don’t know or haven’t learned? If so, examine what you can do to teach this and other juniors to avoid in the future. Maybe more mentorship/guidance is needed
* was it sloppy or rushed? If so, are there extenuating circumstances (like a too tight deadline, overwork, something like that)? It may be appropriate to talk to them about double checking work and pride in final product. Let them know you expect everything they send you must be treated as if it is client ready—even if just being submitted for internal review.
* simple isolated mistake? If so it’s not a big deal and happens to everyone
* was it based on bad or conflicting information or instructions? May need to look into source
* is the junior repeatedly making mistakes on similar tasks, and doesn’t seem to improve after corrections? May be time for a performance improvement plan or other formal corrective action.
Excellent! Thank you!
One thing i would ad: owning up to a mistake to your manager and coming to them with a solution for how to fix it makes things so much better.
💯
Everyone makes mistakes. Learn and move on. 👍🏼
If it’s just one mistake, I give it a pass. It’s a tough industry to learn, and everyone screws up now and then. If you’re obsessing over something, talk it out with your boss or whoever, to see if you can rectify it if that’s an issue. Then let it go
