They say you’re supposed to have 4x salary in your retirement accounts by age 45. Is that true for us as well? Seems really tough to do with the caps on how much you can put into those accounts

I have 10 yoe in Mainframe, ccctc -10L. I have below 2 offer:
infosys - 22.29L.
JPMorgan Chase - 27L, still negotiation going on (also have h1b visa if that matters in negotiation).
I am planning to join in JP Morgan. This is going to be my first company switch (working at onshore since last few years) so wanted to know below things:
1). Is 27L is good enough for 10 yoe resource ? I have seen people joining 24-25L at 4 yoe.
2). How is asset and wealth management (AWM)..? JP Morgan

Anyone works or have worked for Bain? How hard is it to get a job there ? How are the benefits ? W/L balance ? Pay ?

Do most firms start reporting years in September or January? Prior firm did an August year for counting hours and then another did January (both Amlaw 200). Out of curiosity, how do firms treat tattoos and piercings? I have five tattoos and it’s never been an issue (they’re small and I can cover most up), but I’m at a mid-size firm in a small Canadian city and was surprised to meet a fairly senior associate from a national firm with a nose ring, and we recently hired a lawyer with a sleeve (which he also mostly covers). First gen lawyer here (not that that really impacts the question/post) but I see all these posts about entering billable time and appropriate descriptions (mostly in big law or other practice areas (Domestic Relations litigation here)). How often do people here run into clients requesting meetings to have their bills explained or refusing to pay certain work? What’s your practice area, and who in your firm is tasked with these explanation meetings?

Finishing up my first year of big law, thinking of starting my own practice while I work at my current position. Thinking that in a few months, I’ll concretely work solely for my own practice full-time. How difficult is it to gain clients (mainly PI and civil lit)? My mentor also offered me to be an off counsel while I’m working at my current job so that I can refer cases for a cut, would there be an ethical issue? Almost the end of my first year starting my own firm. Financially we did incredible, personally I’m exhausted. I’m tired, I don’t want to work for anyone else, but this is alot. I’m constantly hustling for business, constantly getting rejected and excited for the wins when business does come in. I’m just tired.

How normal is it to be pulled off a trial team because you tell your boss you are moving after trial? I have a trial coming up first week of Oct. This case has been my baby, and I’m going to try it with my boss. I tell my boss up front that, for family reasons, I’ve gotten a new job and will be moving to another city two weeks after trial will likely end. He then gives my trial witnesses to another attorney, but is still going to make me do grunt work. Is he unreasonable or am I?

I’ve been at a small law firm for a year and eight months, and have been an attorney for one year. By small I mean, it’s me and another attorney (I’m the paralegal and law clerk as well). I don’t plan on sticking around, and am actively seeking new employment. Should I ask for a raise even though a raise wouldn’t make me stay? I’m in the San Diego area, I get paid $37 an hour, no benefits, but I get to work from home two days (I commute 104 miles total when I go into the office).

Has anyone used a coaching service for their firm? If so, any recommendations?
