Hey 🐠. Team is supposed to be off this wk, but instead is working M-W and the Partner said that this is a “PRD” week, meaning that we are not billing (getting utilization). Is this against policy?

Team is fairly small. One other SC and offshore SC. I’m looking to escalate to my SM and if he doesn’t convince the PArtner then I’ll have a convo w the partner and simply ask why that’s appropriate. I won’t be hostile or anything, but if the partner pushes back I’ll likely do as he wants and then make a mental note to never work w him again.

Just to be clear; this is highly unethical. You are in the right to take it as far up the chain as you can. I was in a similar situation a few years ago, ran it up the chain, it was well received by D leadership but got me shunned by team, colleagues, and adjacent leads. Retaliation was my reason for leaving the firm. Personally I'm big on ethics.

like

Wait, let’s break this into three possible situations: 1) you planned PTO, are being forced to work - that’s completely wrong 2) you are doing client work but not getting utilization - also wrong 3) your project is on “shutdown” this week since client is out and you are pressured into partner’s PRD work - sucky, but technically not unethical, and you shouldn’t get utilization for this (since it’s PRD, not client work)

I left D because of that BS. Be prepared to take a lot of flack from your team for pushing back.

like

Are you actually working on the client while they are closed? Or did the partner tell you to not take vacation? Either way, f’d up. If the client is closed and you are still working but not on the client I see nothing wrong with that.

like

No idea what prd is but d2's description sounds right. If you're asked to charge to a non client code, that's fine but you can't be doing client work then . Be sure that's the case

K1: PRD is internal Deloitte slang for proposal / RFP work!

like

Ah, in that case that's shady as hell. I mean I won't say we don't do it sometimes too but it's certainly against policy to do work for the current engagement on a proposal code (unless that work really is for setting up some future extension?). Start with the engagement manager and tell them you need to follow policy, so do they want you to stop doing client work in order to stop using the code.

like

Fair point...it’s a PD code, so not utilization either.

How would you approach this? Suck it up at the expense of ur metrics? Push back? Thx

Yes

Call ethics hotline if he doesn't allow you to bill your time

Thx 🐠🙏 for keeping me sane. Yes, originally it was supposed to be project shutdown, but isn’t so that we can catch up. Most of the client folks are on PTO. We are working on client work, but not getting utilization since we will charge time to a non-utilization code.

SOP for the D when I was there.

Are you sure the code is non-billable but still utilized?? When clients go into shutdown, sometimes you have to use a code that we don’t bill them but we still get hours

SC2, yes, 100% sure that it’s non billable

But non billable does NOT mean no utilization. Who cares if it is non billable.

Yea... then I’d raise a concern with the leadership only if I wasn’t going to hit my utilization. If you are going to hit your utilization, don’t cause a ruffle over something small.

Wasting many hours on mundane tasks of data extrapolation and formatting in Excel and PowerPoint (due to limited junior staff and programmers). Has been happening for a while due to us being short-staffed. I don't see myself "above" these tasks per se, but it's taking nearly 50%+ of my time. The mundane tasks can't be automated simply either (I have no programming background). I don't feel like I'm being utilized well given my background/experience. Is this a dead end?
