How do you all deal with the guilt of leaving a comany/ team? I have been working at Microsoft for 1 year now, and seriously considering moving. I find the code base to be very legacy and I mostly work on obscure bugs that I spend so much time on, mostly due to navigating this large code base and not having much docs to refer to. Hence I find the job slightly unsatisfying, and that I could learn more elsewhere. However, I love the wlb, the team and company culture. The guilt stops my applying.

OP you’re part of the culture that is dehumanizing our industry. Did you bring team member lunch at their desk so they could meet your deadline?
Good luck keeping talent around with that mentality when tech companies not only allow people to have lunch but oftentimes provide it
There is no reason to work through lunch. If you’re forcing people to do it something is wrong with your team.
@OP I take it you haven’t traveled outside of the United States given your short-sighted perspective? Most non-Americans feel bad for us...for the lack of holidays and extreme working hours. Always talking/worrying about work. Overall we seem to have the mentality of living to work instead of working to live. You’re perpetuating it with this passive aggressive post.
It’s illegal to force someone to not take their lunch break. At least in California. I work through lunch only when I feel like I need the extra time. Never when anyone else expects me to. I’m entitled to 30 minutes of lunch after working 5 hours in CA, and yeah, I’ll bitch about it if someone else is the one making that decision for me
Nah
SR, what was salty or spiteful? We should be working to make our industry a better place to be, not reinforcing the BS that makes people hate it.
There are a lot of spoiled and high-maintenance people in this industry. No free La Croix? Gross. Only 1 happy hour a month? Lame. Work through lunch to expedite a task so everyone can leave early tomorrow? How dare you.
Director 1 on that good-good WFH and show up at 11 am every day vibe. You go to your directorial-ness busting your butt one way or another. Lay off the salt and spite.
I️ haven’t really had time for lunch since 2016.
I️ don’t feel entitled. Just tired and a little sad. Often hungry.
More and more tech is starting to sound real good
There is such a bad corner-cutting, coddling culture in advertising.. omg the place that pays you needs you to work through lunch!!!!??? GASP! DEHUMANIZATION!
Since when do we get paid to have lunch? 🙄
Oh. I thought you were complaining about working through lunch.
DEGENERATE!
Whoa people put away the pitchforks ...he or she seems to be speaking specifically about the day before a holiday so everyone can go enjoy themselves burden free.
🙄
holy crap. it's just fucking lunch.
